I remember a sketch show many years ago parodying the intensely London-centric television of the time, delivered in the same style as announcements of regional engineering works that might disrupt broadcasts. I forget the exact wording but the gist of it was:
"And now we have a special message for viewers in the north. We're so sorry. It must be terrible."

Yes definately Susie Blake she was the continuity woman on Victoria Wood As Seen On TV.

I watched this exact sketch the other night when I got round to watching a Victoria Wood programme that was on over Christmas. I remember watching it originally too.

She also used to read birthdays with Wally Wallaby.
I'm convinced this was a send up of a real event.
When I was young on Westward TV (local ITV channel for the SW) in the afternoon the presenters used to do Gus Honeybuns Birthdays. He was a rabbit puppet and if your birthday was read out he could wink, waggle his ears or do bunny hops for you. The amount of bunny hops depended on your age.

One presenter was a bit over enthuastic and his ears would sometimes fall off.
Now when we got to teenage years we used to send in birthday requests for friends but say they were 6 instead of 16 and we thought it was hilarious having their birthdays read out.
We were easily entertained in those days.
He is a bit of a legend and Still lives in a theme park in Cornwall.
