I cannot be the only one who wants something cheerful to watch!
Like, no murders, no terrible trauma, no existential crises, no deep and meaningful explorations of the terrible state of the world - as good as all that stuff is - I just want to watch something cheerful and a bit escapist.
Recommendations please folks, for things to watch that left you feeling warm and fuzzy for a little while.

Paddington 1 and 2. I know they are meant to be for children but I love them.
Old episodes of Ab Fab. (First couple of series).
If you have Netflix then Schitz Creek. Grest comedy series and each episode is only about 25 minutes so great if you have a short attention span like me.

It's only one half-hour video and probably not to everyone's taste but this race in GTA Online is something I've watched many times and it cracks me up every time because it all goes so horribly, horribly wrong for the first player.

Okay, it does have murders - nice murders! - but Death in Paradise started series 10 this week. It's my top escapist TV show. Even though the latest series was filmed in 2020, at lest in the first episode there's no covid or lockdowns on Saint Marie island.

I agree the Paddington films are a great choice as something feel-good. I’d also recommend Some Like It Hot and Strictly Ballroom for films. Downton Abbey and How I Met Your Mother as TV choices.

Gilmore Girls! Yes there are 7 seasons of it, but it's the closest any show comes to a comfort blanket for me 🤗 great cast, strong women, witty scripts and amazing chemistry between Lorelai and Luke. Just wonderful 😁

Thanks all, I think I may give Gilmore Girls a try.
I agree the Paddington films, Schitt’s Creek, AbFab, and Modern Family are all excellent picks. I drifted away from the latter around season 3 so will have to get back to it.
Downtown Abbey I enjoyed at the time but it has some grim moments!
And I will forever be disappointed that awful man didn’t get fed to the pigs (they spent so much time setting up the pigs!).

Currently watching last night’s Pottery Throwdown, as recommended by a friend at work.
It’s basically the Bake-off format, but with pottery and that funny Nun off Derry Girls (Siobhán McSweeney) as host.
Lovely telly.

Friday Night Dinner on Netflix is my 'go to' at the moment. I can't help laughing out loud even though I've seen it tens of times at this point. My other recommendations are Episodes and The Good Place, both Netflix, which I am taking a break from at the moment as I've watched them *so* much!
If you can find it, as it's just finished, Sky Portrait Artist of the year is lovely and I gather they do a landscape version too which I imagine is very relaxing but I haven't looked very hard for it yet!

I have really enjoyed the artist of the year on Sky arts. Am watching last years portrait one now as missed it due to not having Sky Arts last year. The landscape artist starts tomorrow at 8 on sky Arts and am looking forward to that too.

Ghosts on BBC is great. Lighthearted humour.
Taskmaster on new series on C4 and back catalogue of previous series on UKTV(Dave) - great fun, bit bonkers, very distracting.

While 'The Good Place' is a clever show, from a certain angle I wouldn't call it very cheerful at times. I don't say this for the sake of nitpicking others' suggestions, but just as a heads up to maybe investigate the show ahead of time if your mood calls for something that is REALLY high-sucrose through and through.

A movie called ‘Dazed & Confused’ always warms my cockles, following some teenage high school students last day of school in 70’s America. Simultaneously makes you want to be there with them whilst remembering your own last day....and predictable Christmas movies on Netflix.

Quick question, is it easy to get hold of the previous series of the portrait one? It's one of the few programmes my housemate and I agree on so would be good to get some more of it! |
