It has high production values. Just a shame the scripts are not as strong.
It is best to ignore things like historical authenticity or accuracy.
I could have done with fewer characters in the families as it is hard to remember who everyone is...
But it is entertaining nonsense

I'm finding it impossible to watch, feels like second-rate American Jane Austen fan fiction and the lead girl is awfully bland. Bailey alone and the rather fetching lead chap aren't enough to keep me engaged. I'm in the middle of episode two, does it get better?

I just finished E04 and I’m completely engrossed. It’s absolutely preposterous but so lush and camp, I’m loving it. Major misstep regarding the diverse casting in my opinion in the episode though {Spoiler - click to view}

I quite like it. Just finished episode 5. It’s pretty much what I was expecting from a series produced by Shonda Rhimes: a glossy US primetime soap.
Love Golda Rosheuvel as Queen Charlotte, with her many, many wigs. Oh, and add me to the list of people swooning over Jonathan Bailey, especially in that scene.

He has the most perfect eyebrows I’ve ever seen, and he knows how to use them. Well, one of them.
Ive just finished it. Kept me entertained right to the end. Lots of nice conclusions with loads of set ups for season 2.

I’ve only got as far as episode 2 but boxing in white breeches won me over. I love the costumes and lovely location shots, and the froth is charming.

Just finished episode 4. The writing doesn't get any better.
The music choices are starting to grate on me now. Offenbach and Shostakovich are not Regency appropriate composers even in an alternate universe

I enjoyed it, but there was a lot wrong with it. The main issue being Daphne being so utterly forgettable and boring.
Didn't realise until the end that I'd gotten two of her brothers mixed up throughout the whole thing, so now I have no clue which brother was doing what, or who.
The diverse casting explanation felt a bit shoehorned in and was rather unbelievable, would have been better to just not explain. As far as I'm concerned the opportunity to have Regé-Jean Page on my screen in Regency clothing is quite explanation enough.

I admittedly tuned out during most of the ridiculous soft porn episode, because it was more interesting to fold socks. I agree that Daphne is just incredibly bland and boring and the whole main story almost infuriatingly banal.
Still... can anyone tell me why she was later shouting at the Dishy Duke that he betrayed and humiliated her about not being able to give her kids after the servant told her how babies were made? I didn't get at all what THAT was about.

She thought he meant that he couldn’t have kids, not that he just didn’t want to, and was actively doing things to prevent it. She didn’t realise that was what was happening because she didn’t know what is actually required to get pregnant.
(Fertility being legitimately a bit mysterious even now, I guess she still thought there was a chance of pregnancy even if he thought he was infertile.)

so... how IS he preventing it? Did she twig that was why he was wearing condoms or ... pulling out or what? LOL, these questions feel stupid, but I reckon even if I had watched the stupid sex scenes, they wouldn't have been that graphic. Considering it took about two episodes to go from "I WILL NEVER MARRY!" to "YES I DO", I assume she'll be pregnant by the end of the first season...

The sex scenes were graphic enough to show him pulling out. In one of them, she even looks at the result and asks “does it hurt when you do that?”

I’m afraid it is usually the case these days that when sex scenes are included in mainstream drama it is because they are relevant to the plot or character.
You can’t really get away with sex scenes for the sake of sex scenes any more.

I think the story is excellent but it all looks too new and colourful and polished for the time.
I personally also don’t like the historical inaccuracies in the casting. I just want an historical series like The Crown to have casting that matches the original person. Rewriting history due to social justice is getting tiring.

It isn't rewriting history when it is fiction. And even the Queen Charlotte casting reflects rumors and scandals of the time. I like the way "The Great" handles the question of fiction versus fact: it's described as “an occasionally true story”. |

Can we just all agree that, it being 2021 and all, we stop complaining that people who aren't white are appearing in mainstream TV and theatre shows, and that it is perfectly possible to use one's imagination? Bloody hell.
