Loved the cast recording. This really needs a West End transfer.

I'm interested in the show, but not at $413 for an orchestra section seat!

I didn't pay much attention to this until Elaine Page played a couple of songs on her show today. They sounded really good and now I want to hear more!

I'm OBSESSED with this show right now! The cast album is the only thing I've listened to for weeks, goosebumps every time! However, something tells me it's not quite right for a UK transfer, which is sad if accurate.

However, something tells me it's not quite right for a UK transfer, which is sad if accurate. Hmmmm I've also been considering this - but I think conversations about mental health are very important, and things are (slowly) moving in the right direction with regards to people talking about issues like that - so it could be exactly what the UK needs. That being said, we all know what tends to transfer and what doesn't so I'm doubtful it will come.

Dear Evan Hansen's depiction of mental health is pretty questionable though in my opinion.

I saw DEH in Washington DC and off-Broadway. I felt similarly (though, luckily, I've had no firsthand major experience with mental health issues), the bit in the storyline about his medication was incredibly bothersome.

This show for me was the perfect follow up to Waitress, very contrasting yet equally as good. The small cast of eight work very well together, I wasn't particular enamoured by Evan's mother and her songs though. Ben Platt is everything they say he is and more. His portrayal of Evan tight and he shows the many sides of the character very well.
You Will Be Found, For Forever and Requiem strengthen the show, especially the former, which ends the first act beautifully. Waving Through a Window appears earlier than expected, but it sets us up to understand what a day in the life of the title character actually entails. Thoroughly enjoyable and recommended, my other half preferred this greatly to Waitress, whilst I preferred Waitress only slightly.

He's the Cynthia Erivo of the season. God, I hope he dresses better.

So Ben Platt was just named one of Time's 100 most influential people? Um..he's a great talent, but I'm sure I don't know anyone who isn't part of a cyber-theatre community who knows who this young man is.

Speaking of relatives, I think his dad is pretty influential.

I did- some of them I did not recognize, some of them I did, and Ben Platt looks really silly compared to the ones I did recognize.

Yeah Ben has got to be one of the most dubious inclusions on that list...if not the most dubious to be honest.

I've just seen and quite loved, there's nothing new, but I like the topic of the musical, it's not very often that they do these ''modern weird musical'' vibe on Broadway and the score is just too catchy.
While the whole plot with the school and project is ok, the entire thing with the two families, linked by a captivating lead character, really is touching and moving. The last 20 minutes of the second act made me cry like a young baby.
I'm obsessed with ''Waving Through a Window'', ''For Forever'' and ''Words Fail'', as you notice, I just can't stop love Mr. Ben Platt.
The cast is tremendous, but Platt and Bay Jones hit out of the park with their performances, it's just so perfect.

About to see the matinee. Got in like 3:30am and got the penultimate pair of the standing tickets for the matinee.
Almost exactly a year since I first saw it! So excited

Well, what a show! I enjoyed it just as much, if not more on a second viewing.
The show is tighter, and the central performance from Ben Platt has somehow strengthened - he's just wonderful. You can not take your eyes off him, the raw yet controlled emotion in his voice I'm not sure how he does it. I think he's a pretty safe bet for the Tony, and (not yet having seen Natasha/Come From Away) I think it's a likely choice for musical/book/score.

Just announced a national tour starting October 2018 in Denver. Sorry, still don't see it crossing over to the UK.

I've been listening to the cast recording pretty much non-stop for the past couple of weeks, it's nothing new or groundbreaking but it's very catchy, and showcases the best of Pasek and Paul's work. I very much enjoyed Dogfight and Edges of their previous work; DEH is, I'd say, even stronger than both of them.
It's a shame that any fairly successful Broadway show gets a national tour within months of opening, I mean Charlie was (arguably) a flop and that got one, whereas here we're lucky if our new work lasts more than a year. I would love to see Dear Evan Hansen or Waitress on our shores, it's sad that we aren't producing great new shows at the same rate as our cousins in the states.

Why is it a shame? It's great that these (mostly good shows) become accessible to a wider audience. And I also feel that it relieves the box office demand (in theory?) so tickets become less impossible to attain on Broadway. Clearly Hamilton has proved this theory wrong, but..

I don't mean it's a shame that they get a national tour, I mean it's a shame that they have such a quickly implemented way of making their shows accessible to people all over America, whereas in the UK it's not quite the same, it tends to be West End OR UK Tour, or in a lot of cases "West End, oh dear we lost a bit of money, well let's put it on tour with a smaller cast and no investment and see if we can make some of that money back", the theatre appreciation isn't the same.

I agree. TBH I think it's due to a mixture of market size/spend, coupled with the producers wiling to take risks from the get go. When their shows become hits on Broadway, they tend to capitalize on that immediately and announce tours that start selling a year in advance.

Finally got round to listening to this for the first time yesterday. Really like it, not picked a stand out track yet but I think it will be a regular play for a while

Ben has won Distingushed Performance at the Drama League Awards, possibly rhe youngest recipient ever? As it is only given once in a lifetime so it is usually given to legends.

Gave this another try tonight as I hate not understanding why others love something so much and on paper this is so up my street. But nah I just can't get there with it. The great things:
- Ben Platt - The staging of You Will Be Found - The emotions of So Big/So Small - Waving Through a Window
Everything else ranges from 'eh' to bad for me. I actually was super bored this time throughout all of the dialogue parts and a couple of the songs. I even prefer Groundhog Day to be honest. I really think it will be a travesty if this show wins Tonys beyond the performances when Great Comet exists (yet to see Come From Away) but it's probably going to happen so I better get used to it.
