I’m very intrigued that you mistook the white understudy for Emmanuel … You'll have to forgive me for not thoroughly researching the skin colour of each cast member and their understudies beforehand. 😂 Starting a spreadsheet for my next show right away. 😉 |

For my £20 front stalls seat at the Liverpool Empire, I really had a lovely afternoon watching today's show. It was just great to see the Empire theatre actually full this time after the much smaller audiences for the last few shows here. To get the bad stuff out of the way. I appreciate as a Disney show you'll get young kids in the audience, but dear lord, having purchased my bargain ticket, what I didn't realise was that it came with the added extra of a 2.5 hour running commentary of the on stage proceedings kindly provided by the family sat directly behind me. By the end I was going to turn round and thank them for the freebie, but after taking a deep breath, just left. I'll never understand why people think it's acceptable to behave like this. I'm all for encouraging people to get to the theatre and to get the next generation of theatre goers going, but if you take really young kids to a show, I just wish that the parents would be more proactive in trying to keep the kids under control. It's not a cheap day out and just ruins what should be a really nice day out for everyone else who is sat around them. I'm all for having "child free" performances of Disney shows so I can watch the shows in peace. Having booked for Frozen in a couple of weeks time, I'm expecting a similar situation again  . Rant over. Anyway, despite the audience situation, I really enjoyed this. A fantastic cast with some wonderful staging. The prologue narrator I thought was a lovely touch to get proceedings underway. That cast though, wow. Courtney Stapleton as Belle was just stunning and we had Alyn Hawke as the Beast at today's show who I thought worked well alongside Courtney. It was my first time seeing Sam Bailey on stage and certainly her take on Mrs Potts was one I enjoyed watching and her vocal, especially with the title number was well received. Though for me it's Gavin Lee who stole the show as Lumiere. His was a scene stealing performance every time he was on stage and his "Be Our Guest" number was for me worth the ticket price alone and got a standing ovation my myself and many others at the end of that number. I was really impressed with all the video screen work and how well it blended with the sets and the lighting design, especially in the Gaston / Beast confrontation in Act 2 was very impressive. Belle's ball gown I thought worked well up close and wasn't too fussy in its design. Though I was less impressed with the design for the Beast which I didn't really work for me to be honest. Maybe more facial make up and hair would of worked better here. For me a 4 star rating. |

I also felt the Beast just wasn't beastly enough. I thought he was supposed to be so repulsive he hid himself away but to my eyes he was a decent looking bloke who just needed a good haircut and shave ! |

I saw this last weekend and managed to bag a £20 single seat. The cast were superb and made the production.
It was also great to hear live brass again who are too often fully replaced with keys.
The only underwhelming element for me was the production design. There were quite a few moments when I was shocked just how bare the stage was. Black wings that sometimes are projected onto, other times not, the same as the proscenium it just didn't work for me.
The best part of the scenic design was three candelabra branches that are beautiful and twist and turn to corner off different parts of the stage.
While I understood the concept of black and white for the beasts castle until the spell is broken it just underwhelmed me and the ballroom seen,those oversized cut outs of roses really didn't showcase the elegance and beauty that moment could have had.
It could potentially be why more production shots haven't been released...People would then see just how small this production design is.

Hi, this is my first post but I am a long time musical theatre fan.
I was extremely excited when the new Beauty and the Beast Production was announced and I was able to see the show quite a few times when it was in Bristol.
I was relieved that they did not include the new songs from the live action film although happy to see that the new ‘verse’ of beauty and the beast “winter turns to spring, famine turns to feast…” was added after the transformations. No matter what reprise was also still present although not credited. How long must this go on was included in the first previews but during a later visit I noticed it had been dropped, replaced with some dialogue.
The big production numbers, Gaston and Be our Guest were very good and the new dance arrangements fantastic. Some amazing tap choreography included in be our guest, not just for Gavin Lee but the ensemble and belle as well.
Courtney Stapleton stole the show. She was phenomenal. Voice, acting and dancing, she has it all. I’m a bit surprised however that she was not present for press night in Liverpool last week and hasn’t performed since as far as I am aware, very strange for a lead to not perform at press night with no announcements as to why……
The rest of the cast were all very good, my favourite being Sam Bingley as Madame, she was fantastic! That role has grown in this new production which was a lovely touch.
I note that there has been some dislike with the set and projections but I must say I though it all looked very good and did not detract from the show at all.
I’m hoping to go again once it is in Cardiff later in the year.

I am pretty surprised that prices are pretty much on the £100 mark. It seems a concerning trend that ticket prices across many shows haven't just inflated post covid, but ballooned.

Crazy to see and crazier if you pay it. I haven’t paid over £30 a ticket for anything since the reopening of theatres this Summer and I’ve sat in decent stalls seats for the majority of shows currently open. |

Good luck with that at The Palace. They’re stingy AF with the discounting. ATG seem to prefer a half empty theatre than reduce their prices. If any of the Manchester theatres are doing dayseats then it’s a rare and very closely guarded secret (unless you fancy a bonkette 3 inches off the ground at the REX). Disney Dayseats sound great but let’s face it, most of the people booking BATB have no clue that such a thing exists.
Also, for all of the people who can sit in any seat in a theatre, purchased at the last minute at one of those rare and secret discounts, congratulations. I am jel. Anyone who has found their seat and literally not been able to sit in it because the knees are jammed up to the back of the seat in front before the seat is fully lowered don’t have that luxury, snd many other people have other fairly modest seating needs which means they can’t leave seat selection to chance. So all of us will carry on paying full price so that all of you can have your discounts. Enjoy! 😐(and if your £20 stalls seat happens to be behind 6’3” me, my shoulders and my fat head… sorry! 🙂)

I don’t just sit anywhere in the stalls. I like to be end of row and more often than not I am able to get that. A good awareness of all offers/websites and regularly checking them is very helpful. Even getting an O2 SIM card just to get half price Theatre tokens is another way of doing it. If there’s a will, there’s a way… |
