Thanks folks for the reports on last night. So there was a rain interruption and that's why I am glad now I didn't go. Yes, I know it all adds to the special 'Park experience' to have a rain break and then see how well the theatre staff deal with it to get the show going again but I've been there and done that more than once and now prefer my Park experiences to remain dry!

If anyone has been waiting to see if any offers appear at the end of the run like I have, just had an email from Official London Theatre - £10 off band A, B & C tickets for all performances except Fri & Sat if you put in the code 'OLT' when booking through the Open Air Theatre website. Forecast looks dry from Tuesday onwards this week!

This production felt a bit like a concert version to me, but I did enjoy it. Reminded me how much I love this musical. Probably both ALW's and Time Rice's finest effort. I can also confirm Pilates Song remains the firm favourite.

In the Arena production he appeared after a workout (yup, shorts, the lot...) for either his Dream or for Pilate and Christ! (Can't remember which now, it was all a bit ghastly...)

Booked for yesterday but they had to cancel around 8.15 due to ongoing rain (they couldn't even start the show), apparently for the first time since the beginning of this run. Rescheduled for next Tuesday and hoping for the best too...

Word has it that Tyrone has canceled his 2 pm Pizza Express gig on the 24th - if so, that is a shame.

Saw it tonight, having seen it last year, so not something I do often but this is a worthy addition to the canon of JCS productions. The priests rocking, led by that fine double-act of Caiaphas and Annas, is the highlight for me.

Just got in from tonight's performance. Third time & it was still amazing! Declan was on FIRE tonight.... his Gethsemane was so intense and passionate. David Thaxton was also utterly brilliant - he really stood out tonight. Tyrone was off but his understudy was very good indef - especially in the second half.
You really feel you've seen something special with this production.

Do I get the impression reading this thread that Tyrone has missed quite a few performances? I am sure he did not miss any last year. I do hope he is OK. I would be disappointed if he was off if I saw this again.

We got rained off after Could We Start Again Please.
Understudy Jesus (maybe that's how he pulled off the resurrection?!) and understudy Peter.
More thoughts later.

Never have Tim Rice's lyrics seemed so apt... I take it you didn't? Sorry to hear the show was spoilt. I loved this production but couldn't bear risking seeing just a portion of it this year. One of the down-sides of open air productions in the UK.

One of the down-sides of open air productions in the UK. Yes it has been a terrible Summer for weather. I saw it last year. Feel sorry for my Dad who didn't. We saw a lot of good stuff although if I'm honest I don't think what I saw was as good as last year. Caipirinha's deep voice was actually pretty comical and I didn't feel that last year. Tonight's Jesus didn't have quite the range or control of Declan Bennett but his diction was a LOT better. I hate to say it but Tyrone didn't sound 100% tonight. I liked Mary and Peter. It's a shame how empty it was tonight. I can't complain about them cancelling it. Some people said they wished they'd just sung it but I bet they'd still have wanted a refund. We got 3/4 of a show and when it started raining during Gethsemane, it looked SO atmospheric.

Forgot to say, they kind of skipped the interval. Time to run to the toilet but that's it.
It's a shame they can't let us watch a live stream from another performance or something.

Back from tonights showing. A clear sky, with the stars shining during 'Could we start again please'.
I saw this last year mid-summer and so glad I got to catch it this season - in the final week! Its even tighter and better than last year and I noticed a lot more freedom in the orchestra, some additional riffing and different dynamics making it a really interesting viewing. Tyrone was back with a full range and stole the show - again! Declan has matured from last year but still didn't wow me, until Gethsemane. So good! It was great to catch the show with 'curtain up' at dusk as opposed to dusk setting in mid Act 2. The lighting really got chance to compliment the show. Production wise, outstanding. The sound was even fuller and louder than I remember last year. Loved it.

I was there too last night. So glad we got such a clear night, just a bit chilly but I come prepare. I hadn't seen a production of JCS since the revival at the lyceum and felt a bit emotional during the overture, there is definitely something about this show, probably one the the first musicals that I ever got to know well. Very impressed in general, the orchestra sounded amazing, Both Judas and Jesus were great, maybe Judas stranded out vocally, but they were both giving 100%. Amazing choreography, although I didn't appreciated it in some scenes like during 'This Jesus must die', I thought it was a bit funny at the beginning but I think in this particular scene stops actors from actually acting the role. And the same happened with the concert element of this production, Mary Magdalene playing guitar during "I don't know how to love him" really ruined for me, same with the beginning of Gethsemane. But very good in general, great atmosphere also, first visit from me to the Open Air theatre and loved it.

The problem was that they had to glance down at the guitar frets on the tricky chord changes, therefore distracting from the feeling they were totally immersed in the words they were singing.
