I forgot about Herod I also loved his song.
Yes my friends had the same problem re the temple and lepers. I did like the costumes but then of course it went into the lepers and my friends didn't quite understand that part.
I somehow forgot to say that for me one or the best things about the whole show was the choreography, really fresh and ppwwrful.

Did anyone see Billy Cullum as Jesus last year? I can't scroll back through 26 pages to see if there any previous comments!
I really liked him as Mark in Rent so I'd be interested to hear how he compared to Declan Bennett.

I thought there was a bit of a nod to Bowie there as he had just recently passed. Anyone else think that? Wasnt as keen on the choreography.

Advice please!
In my long theatre-going career I have never seen JCS and I have a seat booked for tonight. But all the weather forecasts I can find indicate the probability of showers both during the day and also in the evening. I have had my fill of performances at the Open Air Theatre interrupted and occasionally cancelled half-way through by rain (the opening night of 'Kiss Me, Kate' being a particularly horrendous occasion) and at my great age and size I really don't want to have to cope with a rainy night tonight.
Can you aficionados of JCS tell me whether this production is good enough and significant enough for me to brave the elements tonight to attend, come what may, or should I trust my gut feeling and give it a miss. It won't be the first time I have booked for a show then decided at the last minute not to go.
HELP!

I don't think I was very fond of his interpretation and I think he spoke some of the high notes rather than singing then, which I didn't like. However, it was one of the hottest afternoons of the year and several audience members fainted, so that could well have affected his performance. I thought he was wonderful as Mark in Rent too so would probably go and see him again based on that.

Yes, go... it's refreshingly original and all the better for being outside.

Yes, but will I be all the better for being outside?!
Thanks to all for your advice, although I rather expected what you would say!
OK. I'll go if it's not actually raining when the time comes for me to set off from home.

The latest Met Office/BBC forecast is that very light rain will end at 1900 and begin again at 2200.

The latest Met Office/BBC forecast is that very light rain will end at 1900 and begin again at 2200. Thanks TallPaul. So that means the seats will be wet for the start of the show and then the finale will be rained on – lightly. The forecast from the Weather Channel on my iPhone has been changing all day and is currently saying 30% rain at 8pm and 9 pm. If I go, it will rain (lightly) and if I stay at home it won't rain. I still haven't decided!

I don't think 30% chance of rain will stop him. Neither should it you.

Well, I have decided not to go. It is raining moderately here at Wembley and has been doing so for the past 30 minutes or so. If I wasn't 80 years of age and afflicted with various infirmities I would say damn the weather and set off regardless but I'm too old now for that. And I know that my decision means that it will remain fine in Regent's Park for the rest of the evening. But thanks guys for your response to my post.

It's a long way from the station as well and the weather has been all over the place today.

Ah no, monkey. It would be just my luck for the rain to be very light and the performance to continue under rather damp conditions, or for the performance to be interrupted by light rain for a short break and then to start up again, also in the damp. Performances would be cancelled only if the rain was heavy and persistent. At least that's what used to happen back in the old days when I attended frequently, usually First Nights. We thought it was fun when we were young and foolish but alas I am well past that now.

If it is rained off, you get a credit note, of course, and stay dry. Win-win. If it's pouring with rain and not looking like it'll let up? How long do they let you stay there?? Just curious as I wouldn't want to walk back to Baker Street in the pouring rain haha.

I was there last night!!
Weather was absolutely fine right up until Pilate's final scene with Jesus, and it started drizzling. This got worse, plus the wind started swirling sending falling leaves swooshing everywhere through the '39 Lashes' scene, which weirdly added to the drama on stage!! Just before those climactic opening chords of 'Superstar' the cast & band froze and the CSM came on stage to say 'sorry we need to pause'!
Show was stopped for about 15 mins while the shower passed and the techies frantically mopped and dried the stage.
Huge ovation for all concerned, then they reran the Pilate scenes and the show finished with no further weather issues. Most people around us thought it 'added to the occasion' in that 'the show must go on' sense, and thankfully in this case the delay wasn't substantial. And being a short-ish show helps.
The stoppage was handled well - confident, friendly and accurate announcements as to what was happening and when it would restart. They must be so used to this, particularly this past soggy summer!
And the show was great, Tyrone on fire as usual.
I had a quick look online, there seems to be plenty of availability midweek to the end of the run, perhaps surprisingly - so I'm hoping for a few spesh offers to appear, wouldn't mind a sneaky return visit if something cheap pops up...

It's funny how the weather reacts to this very particular moment in the show. I remember seeing it for the first time last year, and the show also been interrupted after the 39 lashes moment during the Pilate's final words. Stage manager calming people with "no worries, we will clear the stage and crucify him after" still stay my best theatre anecdote.

Last week I saw this show 3 times, after 3 times I did the year before. Then I booked only 2 tickets, and had to hunt for the sold out last shows afterwards, but I just couldn't leave London without returning again. So this year I got myself 3 tickets in January. " cheap restricted ones and the last one was the front row dead centre. Yes, the show is powerful and huge from every seat but I felt everything 5 times more intense than during the previous visits. All the pain, all the tears - I cried and prayed there.... You know, there are shows that make you closer to God than any church could bring to. This is definitely one of these shows for me.
P.S. Funny story: Been recognised as the theatreboard Stasia by one of the band members. Hello my new stranger friend, and thank you for your great work! I was too emotional to thank you properly last week

Ah no, monkey. It would be just my luck for the rain to be very light Yes it would be. Does anyone know if it did make it through last night? If it's pouring with rain and not looking like it'll let up? How long do they let you stay there?? They usually keep you hanging around in the bar area for about 30 minutes before they call it. After that, most people leave quickly and swim for it. Don't think they keep the place open much longer. Always best to take rainwear for any eventuality, really. Or they could provide it. Having see-through ponchos over the audience and performers wouldn't affect the show much.

You can buy the official Regent's Park rain poncho for about £5. It's a thin yellow bin-bag with sleeves and a hood, and does go right down to at least the knees, depending how tall you are. It does work, I have to say, but the sound is muffled with the hood up. You can get five ponchos on Amazon for £6.99. Five colours too, to match most outfits!! ;-)

The season is almost over, and NOW he tells me. Could have cleaned up with a stand near the park... Haha. It's England. There is never a season where it's not appropriate to carry an emergency poncho!!! ;-)
