Another novel idea for a live show.
Spice World plus a top West End set of Spice Girls.
Zizi Strallen , Lucie Jones, Bronte Barbe, Danielle Steers, Aimie Atkinson as Posh, Sporty, Baby, Scary and Ginger.
With a cast like that, and a much better, rational, book, Spice Girls the Musical might have worked?

It is depressing. If this is the only sort of live theatrical presentation that can be ‘legally’ performed it is a very sad state indeed. It’s no comment on the quality of the performers. They are pretending to be caricatures of only moderately talented people in the first place. It was hardly going to be excellent was it? Interested to see how ‘Sleepless‘ fares We need some hope. We’re looking to one of the ‘Wanted’ & one of ‘Girls Aloud’ to give it to us. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I meant depressing more that these highly talented performers are reduced to doing a tribute act to a mediocre pop act. No reflection on them- I’m sure they just want to be on stage doing their thing, but it’s a sorry state of affairs nonetheless.

How dare people enjoy something that's insufficiently high-brow. They should be forced to watch Sondheim in Latin.

No reflection on them- I’m sure they just want to be on stage doing their thing, but it’s a sorry state of affairs nonetheless. I really dislike the negativity and snobbery often aimed at the Spice Girls. They were never the best singers, but you can’t call them a mediocre pop act. Their “act” as a pop phenomenon was actually brilliant - what they managed to achieve and the longevity and nostalgia that has stuck with their discography. They still pull in massive crowds to put on impressive shows in sellout stadiums. I also think the weakness of this lacklustre tribute performance is testament to the original Spice Girls’ uniqueness. I’m obviously in agreement with you that it’s a shame if these 5 west end girls have been forced to perform a tribute concert because there’s no other work available, but we don’t know that. They might have jumped at the chance to play one of their childhood idols? I’m also not denying that they are MILES ahead of the Spice Girls in the talent stakes. They could sing them out of the park, and I’d much rather watch one of these girls perform in a regular musical or a solo concert than any of the Spice Girls individually. However, put the actual Spice Girls together and there’s something there which can’t be replicated - they pull of these pop songs in a way no one else can, as can be seen by the performances of these 5 incredibly talented performers just... lacking. So I’ll give you mediocre singers, mediocre dancers, mediocre solo artists. But there’s nothing mediocre about the Spice Girls as a “pop act”.

The Spice Girls were one of those ‘lightening in a bottle’ pop acts that only come along every ten years or so...right place right time...1D did it last and we’re about due another one, that’s if it’s even possible again; you’ll be mad for them or hate them. They’ll be loved & derided in equal measure, they’ll have worldwide reach. People will want to buy stuff with their face/faces on them. I think people forget/don’t know how massive the Spice Girls were at their peak and just view them as a kitsch retro act.

I think people forget/don’t know how massive the Spice Girls were at their peak Indeed they do! They were and are the biggest selling girl group of all time. No matter what you think of their talent, they were hugely successful.Their first album sold over 30 million. I did see them in concert and have to say they did put on a good show.

Yes, I went to see them at Wembley arena with some people from work and it was very enjoyable. Geri struggled a bit but the others all played to their strengths. Why can’t people take pop music for what it is rather than a desperation to tear it down as low brow?
