Well… the cast aren’t American, so… That doesn't answer my question. There is more than one accent in the UK (indeed, there should be more more one in this piece), doesn't mean everyone can do all of them well.

It's nothing new as a production - nice sets and the show is always enjoyable but that's about it. I'm afraid the show was rather ruined for me by Laura Benanti's inability to do either a Cockney accent or more refined English accent, so I wouldn't mind seeing it with someone who can sing just as well as her but can get the accents right. PosterJ you have been traumatised for a number of years. Above from June 2020.

Can confirm Amara is doing a cockney accent and not Laura Benanti's Jamaican!

Can confirm Amara is doing a cockney accent and not Laura Benanti's Jamaican! Oh man, this made me laugh. Laura’s first two weeks were ROUGH. She switched from Jamaican to Scottish, sounding like Shrek at points. But after those first few weeks she turned into the best Eliza I’d ever seen (as I knew she would). But yeah, so many of us here still imitate that Jamaican “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly, Mon?”

I'm not sure why you feel the need to dig out and critique my posting history, but I take offence at you using the word "traumatised". Inappropriate on so many levels. Clearly you need to find better things to do. I was merely asking the question now that the production is actually open and people have seen it. That is what a forum is for, is it not?

Obviously I’m not the one quoted Poster J, but I didn’t see the harmful intent in Frappuccino’s post. I could stand corrected, but I think it was only meant to be light hearted.

I'm afraid it didn't come across that way to me, especially given I was asking a legitimate question given the Broadway revival's history! But the main issue really is that I don't think there is anything funny about using "traumatising" in a joke in any context.

We can't censor everything in life.

How ironic is that? We have just had the first performance of the first revival in 21 years, that last revival starred Dennis Waterman who it has just announced he has died. Also he died in Spain, so it doesn’t just rain in Spain in sometimes pours!

Apologise for the confusion and move on, this seems an odd hill to die on.

Did they bring back the full overture for this revival? Or did they have the shortened version that they used in the US tour (without most of the "On the dtreet where you live" part)? I really hope it´s the full version.

I really hope it´s the full version. Oh god I hope it's the full one! It's one of my favourite overtures. We rarely if ever get overtures in modern musicals nowadays, let's at least keep them in full when we revive the classics! Why did they cut it down on tour? Do they not think modern audiences have the attention span? Makes you wonder what happened to overtures though. I can't remember the last time I saw a brand new musical with one, but I'm not a prolific visitor of new shows generally.

Sadly it's shortened and it caught me off guard that we went straight into I Could Have Danced All Night rather than into On The Street Where You Live.
Sound levels were quite off, I really wanted to orchestra to be much louder, especially in that final swell in the overture of 'I only know when he...'

That's a shame! The full overture only runs about 3 minutes so I don't see why they'd cut it? Removing the "on the street where you live" section takes out half!

Given the person concerned hasn't yet returned to explain what they said, I'm not sure why I should accept your interpretation over mine. Particularly given it was my post from ages ago they went to the effort to dig up, not yours. Joke or not, it was aimed at me and I didn't appreciate it. And I certainly don't see why I should apologise for interpreting a post that was aimed squarely at me in a different way to you. Perhaps you might consider apologising for telling me how I should feel? Because that is what you seem to be doing in that last sentence.

FWIW the quoted post is on page one of this thread, so it’s not like they’ve dug through thousands of posts.

I saw read it on Page 1 after you made the most recent remark. I found it funny because the comment on Page 1 was from 2 years ago. I didn't have any malicious intent. I just used an exaggerated word for comic effect.

But as they said shortened “US version”…then cuts to “I could have danced all night” And it sounds beautiful to There´s no reason to shorten the overture, other than the anxious lazy theatregoers who can´t remain silent and seated for 3 minutes, but even in a revival of a serious golden age musical must be made to their liking. I expect a 35 piece orchestra playing a Robert Russell Bennett arrangement, to play the full overture and get their chance to shine. Especially when the production doesn´t have Entr´Acte or Exit music (both of them were in the original production), and there´s not many moments to listen to the musicians without singers or clapping. The shortened version may sound beautiful, but part of the charm is lost.

I’d be interested to hear whether TodayTix’s rush brings up any decent seats for this. Hoping to catch it on a rush ticket next week 🤞🏻

I’d be interested to hear whether TodayTix’s rush brings up any decent seats for this. Hoping to catch it on a rush ticket next week 🤞🏻 Certainly did for Hairspray last year. Helped me make four visits for the price of one all in great seats. It's such a vast venue to fill and MFL has less family appeal than Hairspray so I reckon there's a good chance. Should add that was just for single seats, we never managed to be offered much looking for two together.
