I have been routinely unimpressed with Mr Praed in most everything I have seen him in ( he was ok in ‘Design For Living’), but I think he’d be an ok Henry Higgins.

Is this the Michael Praed who was Robin of Sherwood when I was young?

Is this the Michael Praed who was Robin of Sherwood when I was young? Indeed. But I'm not tipping him for the part, it was a whisper, nothing more. I asked someone else about Lucy St Louis and they were coy so that's not a banker either. Just thought I'd share what I'd heard. Take with pinches of salt, I don't want to be accused of misleading anyone later if they went for other options.

If the rumoured line up is true, as what fellow members have mentioned today and when you compare Michael Ball and Alexandra Burke had difficulties shifting tickets for Chess, then I don’t hold much enthusiasm for this

I agree. “Ooh let’s go and see My Fair Lady at the Coliseum… Michael Praed is in it!” will say no one ever. And as lovely as she is no one knows Lucy unless they’ve seen POTO lately. I hope the rumour isn’t true.

Praed might be a shout for Pickering not Higgins.
61 is too old for HH these days

I'll be sad if they go back to having a proper age gap between Higgins and Eliza...one of the highlights for me was the closeness in age and how that changed the dynamic...
Also yes, Michael Praed isn't really a draw...

I’ve heard Joe Pasquale for Higgins, Rufus Hound for Pickering and Su Pollard for Eliza.
I hope the rumours are true.

I’ve been hearing another name for Eliza. She hasn’t been as active lately but wow, she would be amazing in the role.

Then which role is Les Dennis taking? Standby for Mrs Higgins for Michael Ball's scheduled days off.

Bradley Walsh would have been amazing in Everyone is talking About Jamie as Loco Chanelle, he would pull that role off. I’ve been hearing another name for Eliza. She hasn’t been as active lately but wow, she would be amazing in the role. Miriam Teake Lee would make an interesting Eliza, I would love to see her play that role - whether she would be able to shift tickets is a different matter though. Elaine Paige has said it is her one regret not getting that role, in her hay day she would've been perfect. Eliza is one of the greatest roles in musical theatre and arguable the greatest female role and can elevate an already massive name to greater heights, I am thinking along the lines of the effect it had on Bette Midler, Glenn Close & Catherine Zeta Jones who were all already big names, but their status was elevated with the Tony win. So what I am trying to articulate and i'm not sure i'm doing it well, even if you are a big name, maybe a Hollywood star, if the role is offered then you be mad not to take it. I did say on here before that Angela Lansbury would be a wonderful Mrs Higgins, she would shift tickets also and a lot of them.

Just watching the Musicals Prom on BBC4. Jamie Parker just sung 'I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face' absolutely wonderfully. He would be a great Higgins I think.

At 96, I don’t think Lansbury is in the kind of health that would allow her to do a show like this, even a small role. Over the last year she lent her voice to a few projects and even in that you can hear a frailty that hasn’t been there before.

Could they sync up show times and cycle petula Clarke from the Prince Edward when she’s not pining in Poppins

How about the newly dame-ified Dame Vanessa Redgrave for Mrs Higgins? She still seems to have a spriteliness to her. And John Heffernan for Prof Higgins? Both deliciously British for foreign audiences too.

If we’re looking to Dames for the role, than I nominate Dame Edna.

All this talk about Mrs Higgins, if it's some ironic theatre joke thing that has sailed over me I apologise, but she's barely on stage!
