I'm glad to hear that your mother is only slightly ill. One of the big problems with covid is it seems to be impossible to tell in advance how ill anyone will get with it. You get 100 year olds who are fine & 30 year olds in intensive care. I think that is one of the scariest things about it, especially if you're someone like me who has major difficulties with uncertainty. Even with vaccines some people are still ending up very ill. From my experience of people I know of who've had it, those who are vaccinated and boosted seem to have much milder symptoms. My 95 year old grandmother who had breathing difficulties anyway and multiple failing organs is currently in hospital and tested positive for Covid on arrival. She sounds better after a day in hospital and a bit of oxygen than she did before she got Covid! And if her care home had a Covid quarantine wing the hospital would be happy to release her. She is double vaxxed and recently boosted.

Hospitals now stopping visiting due to high infection rates. But sure, no further mandated public health measures are needed:

1. Prince Andrew is found guilty by the US Court in the civil case and has to give up his title 2. Boris stands down as leader 3. Covid recedes into the background and we won't be at threat from restrictions To be honest I think restrictions are right around the corner given the ridiculously high case numbers.

They could obviously backtrack but the govt is saying the opposite at the moment

Given the government's propensity to spring things on people with no warning (see: the NHS being told along with the rest of the nation that they were expected to give 1m vaccinations per day, or theatres getting 24 hours notice that they have to close), it's probably wise never to be too certain of anything at the moment.

Posts removed. i think many of us are tired of the repetitive sniping amongst a small number of contributors. No one should be coming to this thread or this forum for their daily facts and figures about covid. This is not the place for that, and equally it is not the place for contributors on either side of the “lockdown/don’t lockdown” debate to try and educate the rest of us by posting their own curated snippets from the internet. I would strongly suggest that people go and read or watch a reliable news source and draw their own conclusions from that, and that the people involved in this ongoing spat give it a rest.

Well said.
Currently I definitely know a lot more of my circle of friends and acquaintances who currently have covid than at any point over the last 18 months. Thankfully all jabbed and seemingly quite mild symptoms.

A short while ago, we were talking about issues getting LFT tests. I just picked up a box in my local library and they have a new test kit that has 20 tests in the box. No code required, they don't even ask for name or postcode or anything and you don't have to be a library member.

I ordered some on line yesterday, after trying the previous day to be told none were available. By coincidence I then heard someone on the radio saying to try ordering regularly because they’re coming in and out of stock all the time. That’s what made me try again and hey presto I have a pack on the way. Today showing as unavailable again.

Our local ones have put out a message saying they don't do them but a 20 kit box seems a useful thing to get.

So this is clearly not about stock, they are using the “unavailable” message to throttle demand so that the despatch centre doesn’t get into backlog.

I understand from local Twitter that the testing centre on the ground floor of Centre Court shopping centre in Wimbledon is also giving out boxes of 20.

Apparently the Government are ending free LFTs? What do they think living with the virus looks like then?

Apparently the Government are ending free LFTs? What do they think living with the virus looks like then? Probably like living with Flu. We don't regularly test ourselves for it and don't isolate when we have it.

Actual 'Flu' (influenza) isn't something that you'd be carrying on your day to day life with normally I don't think. It's also not as transmissible really so I imagine that's why we don't test for it

We don't regularly test ourselves for it and don't isolate when we have it. If that is going to be the situation then maybe we can adopt the approach they have in the East, where mask wearing if you have a cold, as a courtesy to others, seems to be the norm. A friend was just commenting how bizarre it was, pre-pandemic, that in the West we were expected to crawl out of our sickbeds and go into work with a streaming cold and sneeze all over our workmates.

We don't regularly test ourselves for it and don't isolate when we have it. People should isolate when they have flu though, that's literally the whole point. I don't want flu any more than I want Covid. You're sick, stay away from other people.

Nahawi said the Sunday Times story isn't true.
Story said it'd still be free for people who work in schools/hospitals, and for people displaying symptoms. At some point in the next few months, we will probably move away from testing asymptomatic members of the general public.

Like Covid, many people will have very mild, if any, symptoms. I can’t afford to take time off work every time I’m feeling a bit under the weather.

I can’t afford to take time off work every time I’m feeling a bit under the weather. That makes sense but I've always found it a bit weird that when people are clearly ill (sneezing, coughing etc) they are still encouraged to struggle in to work. It feels counter intuitive because they spread their illness to the rest of the workplace which means productivity goes down more than if they'd just taken a couple of days off.

Nahawi said the Sunday Times story isn't true. Who do I trust to be telling the truth - the Murdoch press, or a minister of the current government? A bit of a Hobson's choice, to be sure.

At some point in the next few months, we will probably move away from testing asymptomatic members of the general public. Thus allowing asymptomatic people to spread the virus, potentially enabling the next mutation.

Thus allowing asymptomatic people to spread the virus, potentially enabling the next mutation. Very VERY small chance of that. And covid is endemic and never going away, so I don't really see any other option
