Terrible plan - I love Trafalgar Studios 2 and have seen some great productions there.

I love TS2 but I hate the rake and layout of TS1, it really needs to be something special to persuade me to go there. I think their argument that the West End now has other flexible spaces is a decent one, although comparing the huge Bridge Theatre to the tiny TS2 seems a bit of a stretch..

Yes, and I hope they'll restore the Whitehall's fabulous art deco proscenium.

It is interesting that Trafalgar Entertainment is converting it back to its original form, I'm guessing it makes sense for them financially to have a theatre that has the capacity to compete for bigger shows. Wonder if they'll rename it?

TS1 will always have a special place in my heart owing to the Watermill Sweeney Todd setting up shop* there Pie shop obviously! |

T1 is very uncomfortable and gives me vertigo. T2 is too small, the intimacy isn’t theatrical, it is claustrophobic. I have seen good stuff in both spaces. But that was then, not now.

Now see, I think TS2 is intimate and that’s what I love about it - you’re right there up in the action and there’s no escape from it. |

I’ve seen great stuff in T2 too (and had good famous people in the audience moments in there too) and have not enjoyed some good things in T1 due to the discomfort of the seating. So I’m happy and sad about the plans.

Not really a frequent visitor, but not happy about that. And I, in turn, wasn’t thrilled with what they did to the Whitehall to turn it into the Trafalgar Studios, which was an act of architectural vandalism. |

I agree the seats in T1 are awfully uncomfortable but I do quite like the rake. It's a shame if it's going to be another West End theatre where you miss parts of the show from the stalls because there's virtually no rake.

There are better small spaces in London, including some which have opened since the Whitehall was converted into the Trafalgar Studios.

If anyone is interested, the plans for the reconversion of the theatre are on Westminster Council's website but be warned, there is a lot of documents!
I wonder if the original stage of the Whitehall will be brought back or if they'll build a new stage?

Which small spaces ? One of the examples they came up with, The Bridge, is much bigger than this will be even after it has reconverted. I saw some good things at TS1 and TS2 but neither were great spaces. |

Neither, I was just interested in which ones you meant because I couldn’t think of any, apart from the Boulevard, not in central London at least which was part of their justification. I think Jermyn Street maybe, not sure when that opened. It seems an odd justification, that’s all, it looks more commercial than artistic to me. |
