The budgets of quite a few Broadway shows are pretty much public, but the West End seems to be somewhat different in that respect. Either that or I'm completely out of the loop.
But I'm wondering what the new British works cost to put on, both on the West End and out of town. I'm particularly interested in the smaller musicals we've had in recent years like Half A Sixpence, Mrs Henderson Presents, The Go-Between etc. As well as out of town shows like Flowers For Mrs. Harris. Any ideas? I'm intrigued because they all looked very intimate, thus you would expect there being a fairly decent chance of recouping, but then I think most of them didn't.
And what about plays? They're obviously going to be cheaper due to smaller casts, no orchestra etc. But then again they often do have big stars in them so that surely must raise the costs considerably. And yet many of them seem to do quite well on 12-week runs.
Thus anyone know of any confirmed figures? Or even well-informed estimates?
