Ok this is interesting (playing it fast and loose with the word here, but we are on lockdown after all) - I’ve only ever eaten crumpets with sweet toppings i.e jam, peanut butter, Nutella. But after reading this thread, am I missing out here?!? Yes, delicious with cheese but I often have them for lunch just with butter which is still tasty. I need knew ideas for lunch, I have biscuits and cheese nearly every day. Sometimes marmite on toast or a basil pesto and cheese toasty.

A neighbour on our local facebook group was selling catering size packs of halloumi cheese at a bargain price with sell by date of October and I can never resist a bargain. So I will be mostly eating halloumi for the forseeable future. Suggestions on how to be creative with it appreciated.

alece10, I did actually check the Cote site and see that they did desserts - though at those prices I'd probably just buy a couple of those little chilled desserts in pots instead. However, all the mains seemed to be for 2, which wouldn't work for us as OH is vegetarian but when we eat out, that's a rare opportunity for me to have meat or fish.

Nigella's beetroot and lime dressing is wonderful to pour over halloumi and designer salad leaves. Great for a light lunch or dinner party starter

But it will be dinner party for 1 at the moment.

I've been working non-stop since I finished Schaubuhne's 'Richard III' last night: I was up until 2, and then from 9:30 this morning. I realised I cannot do it any more an hour ago, and went to do some cooking.
So, lunch is a vegetable stew (leeks, red pepper, carrot, chickpeas, some pasta and a lot of spices) with some cheese grated on top to melt in the serving bowl because everything is just a bit better with cheese. :)

Along the same line - crust it in sesame, or marinate with chilli and grill it, and use it to top any salad. It's the absolute best thing!

I had a large onion left over and two rashers of bacon, so for today's meal I had an unreasonably large amount of fried onion.

Pan-fried spiced halloumi with smoked hummus in flatbreads and a little pomegranate molasses. An amazing cheese. And an unapologetically large glass of wine

Lunch was veg soup cooked up from lots of green veg about to go off. And chicken in seeded bread rolls. Then a small orange juicy fruit, name unknown. I’m getting the hang of this tow meals a day thing. Have to support working OH who is keeping office hours. But today was a rest day, in the garden anyway. In previous times, shall we call it BC19 my lunch spread itself over the whole of the middle of the day 😳

Gosh, people here are awfully keen on hallloumi, which my sister also loves. Some of the recipes using it sound great, but to me it's tasteless (like mozarella, which is the most pointless and unpleasant cheese I know, due to its lack of flavour and rubbery consistency), so I'd simply choose a more flavoursome variety in the first place. Or is someone going to tell me I haven't tried the right version of halloumi?

Totally agree - halloumi is tasteless - give me a vintage cheddar, Stilton or ripe Brie any day.

Totally agree - halloumi is tasteless - give me a vintage cheddar, Stilton or ripe Brie any day. A full-on well matured Cheddar, Roquefort or Stilton (unchilled!) etc is a total joy. I couldn’t be without those sort of cheeses. But a good halloumi - and boy do they vary in quality - used well can be lovely. I used to hate halloumi: and chilled, flaccid and straight out of the plastic it is horrid. And just on its own it’s not exciting! But eaten at room temp with a little drizzle of honey and a grinding of pepper and it comes alive. As it does when marinated. But halloumi can really shine when cooked nicely.

Today's meal was guinea fowl. Later I will probably have a shop-bought individual blackberry and apple crumble with custard.

Oh I say, @thematthew: that sounds wonderful! I used to love cooking more unusual things such as pheasant until OH went vegetarian without warning, leaving me with a freezerful of meat casseroles, sausages, etc. That was so long ago that it was in our previous house, so probably 20 years since. I still miss a little meat now and then but manage by buying a ready meal on the few occasions when OH is out alone, or by having a meat topping on pizza.

I made a bacon butty which was delicious even if I do say so myself (bacon not too well done, a small amount of ketchup and toasted bread is my preference).

I wish there was some way of being able to do the washing up before cooking and eating the meal instead of having to do it afterwards. Knowing that it's waiting interferes with the enjoyment of the food. Stupid cause and effect.

Getting a dishwasher was a revelation to my cooking habits. Things I would never have bothered to cook because of the pans became a breeze.
Sadly, after having a dishwasher for about 6 months the load/unload issue meant I was back to where I was before.
I went back to Domino’s 🍕
