Wasn't it lovely! Only thing I'd say is that they could have done with gathering the questions early so they could prep the answer in advance - they were a few 'oh, I don't know!!' moments where the conversation stalled.
But I loved finding out what Dame Mags said to Leo DiCaprio at the BAFTAs.

But I loved finding out what Dame Mags said to Leo DiCaprio at the BAFTAs. It was glorious wasn't it? I just adore how Maggie Smith can come across as acerbic but whenever she talks about Judi you can just see the love and friendship they share. I wish they had submitted the questions beforehand too, so they had a chance to think about them. So many potential stories weren't given enough time. I hope this is the first of many, the amount I'm not spending on tickets I'd be more than to support more of these. |

This is about a fast changing-world. I'm going to offer something that is academic and, at least for me, very helpful on two issues of the day/week/year. I swear it's worth a few minutes of your time, not least because Jonathan Haidt is super-knowledgeable and a born educator. If you want to get a handle on how all the stuff about trigger warnings, safe spaces, micro aggression's' grew from in 2014, listen from 8 minutes. If you'd like to know a little about female aggression as played out on social media - and this is really frightening - listen from 1 hour 22 minutes.
This all bleeds into what we're seeing at the NYT and now The Guardian, as well as 'no-platforming' and silencing by other, often public shaming, means.
Highly accessible, very very interesting stuff - I offer no judgements, purely informational :

I've been watching Royal Variety Performances on You Tube. There are dozens of them, in full and in broadcast quality dating back to the early 1960s.
For musical theatre aficianados I recommend starting with the first hour of 1979 although almost every year includes a musicals section. So many fine performers no longer with us at the top of their game.

Just watched the Barnes monologues. A tenner each. The Adrian Scarborough is well worth it both as a bit of a masterclass and because the BBC banned it when Barnes wrote it. The other three are also poignant and interesting. £30 for the four. Lasts 20 mins each one.

Moderating it seems so unnecessary! I just signed up, and they're promoting Brandreth's new-ish book 'The Oxford Book of Theatrical Anecdotes'. When I've seen him on 'QI', he seems somewhat unstoppable when he gets the bit between his teeth, so I hope he doesn't talk over the other two. |

He was down to do the Bridge Judi Dench interview thing too pre covid. He irritates me too, just seems to think everything he says is wildly entertaining. |

The National Arts Club (in New York) has been having a series of free online conversations... Dame Judi Dench was interviewed last Wednesday and Sir Ian McKellan today.
