Good for her. The last few weeks must have been awful so to get some love and affirmation as she leaves 👍🏻

Jane Lynch is now leaving on Aug 14th instead of Sept 4. Is she really trying to avoid Lea that much?

Hope this Twitter link works, am posting from my phone and not 100% on how to do it……. but they’ve posted a sneak of Lea’s vocal.

Lea Michelle leaves me cold. She's very polished and slick and can belt her face off, but nothing about her feels genuine*. That clip of her singing doesn't help. The "Here she is! The Superstar!" nonsense, accompanied by arty farty black and white footage of Ms Michelle emoting to within an inch of her life while interacting with smiling, happy cast members. It really doesn't dispel the 'diva' image, and comes across as over-produced and pretentious.
*As I was typing this, the image that popped into my head was Carlotta from POTO!

Did I read correctly, that a song from the movie has now been added or was that just speculation?

“The staging is still an eyesore” 😂 made me chuckle at the end. Like he felt he’d been too enthusiastic in his review so had to add in a downer to finish.
I just watched a bootleg of last night’s Don’t Rain On My Parade (it’s on Twitter/Instagram at the mo I’m sure will do the rounds)……it surprised me a bit as her intonation was really off, very sharp at times. Didn’t expect that. Maybe just excitement.
How long do we think this casting might last? I’ve been pondering a NY trip next spring, but wouldn’t get my hopes up I’d see this cast. They’re booking till the end of Feb as far as I can see.

I found that same bootleg you're on about just out of curiosity and my main takeaway is just how annoying Broadway audiences are. I know this'll be them at their worst given the circumstances but it felt like half the song was covered by whooping and clapping.
As for her performance, it was just okay. She sounded flat in some places to me, her tone is lacking bite almost in a similar way to Beanie though definitely not half as bad, and it feels like she adds a cry into almost every note which is very distracting. She nails the climax though and she has the least problematic phrasing out of all three so far imo, the other two were very clipped and stilted in places.

There’s a great analysis of her cry technique here on “Music Theatre Theory” (this chap’s whole YouTube is well worth a watch IMO, he does some good content)

I hope that Lea Michele's close family and friends were all there on the night to support her.

I hope the reported multiple mid-performance standing ovations were because of the fan-friendly audience last night who were trying to recoup some value from their dramatically overpriced tickets. When I go see a musical, I don't want concert-like audience behavior unless the show is clearly designed for it and everyone knows that going in.

There's no need for such nonsense during a performance. As Sondheim said, a standing ovation these days is all about the audience indulging itself, and bugger all to do with the actual performance.

An amazing performance of People and interview from Lea on the Tonight show.

When I saw Bette in Hello Dolly I wanted to get up and leave about 15 minutes in, the audience was excruciating! I ended up hating it with a passion so I should've done so lol

I know it’s different shows, but I’ve just returned from a NY visit and saw 4 shows, the audiences were unbearable at times. The whooping, standing ovations mid show and random clapping got on my wick. Give me a badly behaved West End audience over a Broadway one anyway.

Last time I remember a replacement cast getting a cast recording was when Vanessa Williams took over on Kiss of the Spiderwoman, which was great because it had Brian Stokes Mitchell and Howard McGillan doing memorably different interpretations of the score too.

Honestly, I think recording this one was a bit of a no-brainer. Lea Michele is fantastic in this role, I'm actually looking forward to getting hold of a copy.

Shouldn’t this be out for us by now? Usually it’s out at whenever midnight is in your time zone.
