Will Lea Michele finally get her chance at playing Fanny or is she above replacing?

If it’s true it’s genius casting. About the only thing that could possibly get me back to see this production.

I'm due to be in New York that week and might just spring for a ticket if this is true. I'd never have gone near it with Beanie.

If it is Lea then theatre twitter will explode.
If it isn’t Lea then theatre twitter will explode.
Either way it’s going to be interesting to see the announcement and the reactions to it.

I did wonder whether she was quitting early because she can't stand to be there while her replacement is rehearsed. Not sure how much they'd run into each other, though.

And it seems that Jane Lynch is also leaving earlier than planned, or did I read that wrong?

Going to NYC in December and this is the only reason I want to see this revival! Hopefully she'll still be in it then

I thought the production on the whole in supposedly very staid?

I mean... we can't deny that this is the way the public wants it. We can't forget how huge a show Glee was. I know Lea Michele is a very controversial figure, but in terms of overall narrative, the public are going to like it.
I just can't believe the producers ACTUALLY pulled the trigger and did it.
I do feel bad for Feldstein. She was given a part that she didn't suit just because she is "quirky" and "funny", which is fine when you're a sidekick in a comedy flick, but carrying a show eight times a week is a different animal, and it takes real star power. Especially when a show like Funny Girl is more of a vehicle than a show. It's like casting Dolly Levi, it needs someone who can take centre stage and be the star, and not many character actresses can do that.

Surely at the rehearsal stage it would’ve been apparent she didn’t have the vocals to take on this role. Someone should’ve had the balls to pull her then. Combination of ego and yes people. Stunt casts need to just do one. Bored by these ‘stars’ wanting a ‘go’ and the public who fuel this madness by worshipping the celeb culture. Quite like you wouldn’t employ Darren from the corner shop to plumb in your washing machine or rewire your house you’d employ a professional - Just employ a professional legit musical theatre performer to sing Dolly. br]

That's the thing. She was a supporting character actress who was given a chance at a lead role against the odds.

Not sure why I never got around to posting about it at the time but I saw the show with Beanie when I was in New York over Easter, so just days before the official opening. She was definitely a very likeable presence on stage and you wanted to root for her but in general she just didn’t cut it. The vocals were pretty weak by any standard, and for a role such as this just not good enough. She had some funny moments but it wasn’t enough to fully buy into her performance, and I don’t think she really brought the emotional depth to the scenes in Act II. I couldn’t help but compare her to Sheridan (whom I saw on tour in 2017 and a few times after on the proshot), and I felt Sheridan’s acting was miles ahead of Beanie’s. Sheridan was great at all the clowning in the show but could also break your heart by the end of it, which I think is so important to hold Act II together. Sheridan’s vocals were also definitely stronger than Beanie’s, and as most of us know Sheridan isn’t exactly a massive belter herself. I don’t think Lea will be able to top Sheridan’s acting chops in that role but her singing is going to be 100 times better than both of the performers I’ve seen so far. It remains to be seen how Lea will handle the comedy but I think people forget that Glee was a comedy at heart and Lea had no problem handling the comedy there, so although this is much more in your face, I don’t think it’s crazy to think she could rise to it. I saw Lea sing Don’t Rain On My Parade live when she was on tour with Darren Criss in 2018 and it was incredible, her voice really is 1 in a million. The issues with her as a person and whether she should have been cast is a whole other story, but based on the talent I don’t think there’s anyone better for the role and hearing her sing this score would be absolutely thrilling, and a one in a lifetime experience for me personally.

Totally agree. She wants it, there’s a huge audience who want to see her do it and she’ll slay. It’s a no brainer. Wish I could go and see it.

Whilst I think Lea will be great in the role, I do feel sorry for Beanie - with social media the way it is - which has seeped into gossipy nature of Broadway media also, with their clickbait takes - i don’t think she ever stood a chance. People were rooting for her to fail from the very start.
