That looks very promising Set looks like every other version. Costumes look almost exactly like every other version. Milky White done in almost exactly same way as every other version. Hope Gilliam has brought some new vision to the table. This is the most basic scene in the whole production. You needn't worry!

just seen first preview! and this surpassed expectations for me personally. the set especially is phenomenal and miles better than anything i went in expecting. the premise of it all being a child’s toy is used amazingly and while used throughout doesn’t feel too much. the cast is very strong with lauren, audrey and alex being standouts for me personally. the production is very different to any others i’ve personally seen and lots of moments are reimagined. think one of the big ones which i haven’t (personally) seen before it the mysterious man no longer being the baker’s father but instead a representation of death which really changed ‘no more’. the whole production was amazing and definitely a go see ! from the budget funnelled into set it’s clear a london run is happening. my one gripe was a few of the costumes, mainly the wolf costume solely because you couldn’t see his face so no acting was really possible in the song. really excited to see how the show develops in previews and then with the transfer

A friend of mine travelled for this. It sounds very good, after a thirty minute rave down the phone to me. I’ll be booking for this and probably stay the night.

Isn't the lead into No More, the mysterious man talking about stealing the the beans and running away? in this production it’s the mysterious man reading a letter that the baker’s father had written. it seems the letter is one he wrote to the baker explaining why he was leaving that the baker never saw. the words about running away are all still there etc just said as if coming from the letter if that makes sense

Excited and pleased to hear positive early reports.
Only downside is if it is transferring to the phoenix is we will have to wait until late Jan or Feb. Shame not to strike while the iron is hot and take advantage of Christmas visitors to london

Presumably after all the hype there’s going to something more groundbreaking than flat trees sliding on and off and a big vase?

From what I've seen I would expect its more about how the set works within the context of the story and how the two combine, rather than some flying carpet type showy stuff.

If you're planning to see it I'd try avoid as much as possible. Some great surprises! Not planning to, Bath is over 4hrs from Manchester and I’m not bothered enough to stay over. The Opera North version set in a classroom was good enough for me! Anyway, sounds like spoiler tags might be appropriate for any significant surprises until people have seen it. Spoiler instructions here.

I've been avoiding productions of Into the Woods for about 20 years, as I feel like I've seen it just too many times. However, this production is definitely tempting me...

Hopefully not too spoilerish to ask about the number of people down in the pit? I’m hoping for the original Jonathan Tunick orchestrations without reductions…

I don’t really have the time to travel to Bath so I’m looking forward to this opening in London at some point - I’ve always wanted to see Into The Woods on stage!

You could get the last train home. 22.14 to Paddington Just a heads up that the show came down at about 22.30 tonight (having started maybe five minutes late) so is longer than the advertised run time. It is downhill to the station, but you might be cutting it a bit fine… Hopefully not too spoilerish to ask about the number of people down in the pit? I’m hoping for the original Jonathan Tunick orchestrations without reductions… From the programme looks like 10 people playing instruments. Thanks! Thankfully it still sounded fairly full tonight despite it being two thirds of the original numbers

went again this afternoon and already some changes have been made. most fairly small but defo noticeable from wednesday. they’ve also now added proper bows at the end which weren’t there on wednesday! they had a few set problems today (mechanism on granny’s bed didn’t work properly and a staircase didn’t full come out from the wings due to a tree in the way that hadn’t moved) that the cast dealt with amazingly. there also was nearly a collusion between the baby pram and the couple sat in the middle of the front row during children will listen but luckily audrey, lauren barney and rhashan all dived quickly and stopped it just before it fully went off stage but caused the pram to then tip back the other way and fall onto them. think it gave the lady in the row a fright wouldn’t be shocked if this blocking is changed cus i can defo see that happening again! cast still amazingly strong, interesting no listed understudy for the baker or the witch anywhere though
