Sad news that Tony Britton has passed away at the grand old age of 95. He had a career spanning over 70 years and was still giving fine theatre performances well into his mid 80's. He is perhaps best known to a lot of people for roles in popular 1970's and 1980's sitcoms but also achieved a BAFTA nomination for The Nearly Man as well as success in several major films.

Yes, hugely lengthy career. Remember him playing Higgins in the MFL revival in the late 70s. I saw him at the RSC in 1994 among other things. Sad that most lazy obit writers say he played Gloucester in King lear at the OV in 2013 when it was in fact a charity reading for one day only.

I only knew him from Robins Nest and Don’t Wait Up (both of which my parents were big fans of) but fair play to him, he had a good innings.
