What are you looking forward to next year? How do you feel about the year of shows that's been announced so far?
For me, this time last year I was very excited about 2019, there were so many shows I couldn't wait to see and to experience. This year, other than a handful that I am excited about, the rest are between "guess I will see it" and "not interested at all".

Chastain’s A Doll’s House.
Magic Goes Wrong (opens this month but won’t be seeing it till Jan)
The James Graham/Elton John musical at the Almeida.
Far Away at the Donmar.
A Number at the Bridge.
The Pullman adaptation at the Bridge.
That seven hour Seven Streams play at the NT.
Jack Absolute sounds fun at least.

For "new to me" musicals, I'm really looking forward to Prince of Egypt - one of my favourite childhood films. Also looking forward to finally seeing Sunday in the Park with George, and I think "Sleepless" and Drifters Girl will be good. Hoping to also catch Back to the Future in Manchester and Once Upon a One More Time in Chicago. Lots on the list for my two week trip to NYC including Beetlejuice, Jagged Little Pill and Flying Over Sunset amongst others.

My theatrical new years resolution is to spend less on theatre and try to be more selective.
I'm greatly looking forward to ticking off The Gondoliers & Greek. And then Rusalka and Knot Garden are two wonderful operas that I can't wait to see again.
Geisha (Ballet). I've also got a few other evenings at Sadlers Wells planned.
Life of Pi sounds amazing.
Uncle Steve's 90th is giving us Gypsy, Night Music and Sunday the latter is my most anticipated and not just because of Jake.

This year didn't impress me much as Ididn't care for most of the American imports (apart from Come From Away) and there was very little home-grown stuff.
This coming year excites me more - Prince of Egypt has the potential to finally become a properly big musical with great sets, costumes and musical theatre songs again and Back to the Future, Local Hero and Sleepless could be good or even great, too. And we're getting the real good stuff from NY with Sunday in the Park with Jake.
And yes... the Bats are back. Nothing could make me happier.

I decided to be more selective in 2019 after quite a few disappointments in 2018. I've much more to look forward to for 2020, I think -
Already booked for
Prince of Egypt - Haven't seen the film and know very little about
Pretty Woman - had my fingers crossed for Andy Karl who I adored in Groundhog Day ....
City of Angels (loved this at the Donmar)
To Kill A Mockingbird (love !!! Aaron Sorkin)
Sunday in the Park with George - which I've never seen, know very little about and have only heard a few of the songs
Hairspray
Hello Dolly
&
Singing in the Rain at Sadler Wells.
Also venturing out of the smoke for Phantom in Leicester 'cos I love Killian Donnelly.
And will be booking for The Secret Garden.
I've also got HMS Pinafore at Wiltons booked, as much for the venue as anything else, taking my American friend who I'm sure will adore it.

(because of Imelda Staunton) The Visit (will be interesting to see what they do with it) Magic Goes Wrong (would be the first show of theirs I would actually see on stage, not TV) La Belle Sauvage (loved the book) Others I have already booked / planned (like Hairspray or Prince of Egypt), looking forward to them, but not really 'excited' about.  |

I am moving to the UK in less than 2 weeks and one of my New Year's resolutions is to go to all the theatre my heart desires. I am particularly excited to go to the Edinburgh Fringe festival In terms of shows, I am really looking forward to Pride and Prejudice* (*sort of), Oliver Twist, Cabaret, Six, and Monsoon Wedding (although I haven't booked all of these yet). I am also really looking forward to making some trips to London and catching &Juliet and some other big West End shows I haven't seen yet. Hopefully I will also discover some little hidden gems at the Fringe Festival or my regional theatre  Fingers crossed that 2020 will be a great theatre year! |

The company I do the Edinburgh Fringe with have bought the rights to Kinky Boots as their 2020 Fringe musical which I am VERY excited about - one of my favourite shows.
