I attended an excellent reading of James Shirley's 1631 play The Traitor, which was presented by the Red Bull Theater at the Lucille Lortel Theater in New York on Monday night, November 18. The only other production of a Shirley play that I have ever seen was the hugely enjoyable RSC production of Hyde Park, with Alex Jennings and Fiona Shaw, at the Barbican Pit. These rarities make for very enjoyable theater-going. www.redbulltheater.com/the-traitor
