Thanks for confirming that. I was dishing out my tea and thought I'd misheard what she said.

I think she just meant that there's no spoken lines bless her but didn't exactly put it great😂 This is a sung-through show right?

Alexandra Burke on The One Show: "There's no acting in Chess, just singing" Sometimes the jokes just write themselves.

^^ Of course it's a daft thing to say but presumably she meant she doesn't have dialogue (much if any?). Alexandra can be inelegant in how she expresses herself at times (making her an easy target) but there is an almost childlike enthusiasm about her that I like.
To be fair to her, she was pretty amazing on the Bruce Forsyth tribute and did a fine job with a snippet of 'Memory' on that Ant and Dec takeaway thing.
As unpopular as this opinion may be in here, I booked Chess almost solely to see her in the role (Cassidy ain't bad either to be fair) so I hope she can do herself and the show, justice.

It's put me off booking. I was actually looking at tickets just as she came on tv and I really don't know if I can be bothered now.

If its anything like the RAH version and it may well be, very little acting at all WILL be required.

Makes me wonder if this is going to be the musical equivalent of the NT’s Macbeth

Hey I’m a new member and a big fan of Chess. Does anyone know who is making up the rest of the cast? Molokov is one of the most important characters in the show

First day of rehearsals today according to AB on BBC Breakfast earlier I like to imagine that they'll begin by all sitting in a circle to introduce themselves. "Hello, I'm Michael Ball OBE. I started in The Pirates of Penzance...Les Miserables...Aspects of Love...Chitty...Hairspray...Sweeney Todd...Mack and Mabel...Radio Two...Alfie Boe..." "That's lovely. Thank you Michael. Perhaps you'd like to go next Alexandra."

Mickey Ball: I had a text from her this morning to say go ahead without her today. She’s only in a couple of scenes after all, and there’s no acting anyway. Laurence Connor: Thanks, Mickey. Right then, let’s move on to Alfie... Alfie Boe: My name’s Alfie and- Mickey Ball: (Singing.) What’s it all abouuut, Alfie?! (Laughs, playfully punching Alfie on the shoulder.) Alfie Boe: (Laughing.) Good morning everyone, my name’s Alfie- Mickey Ball: (Still laughing but now uncontrollably, and attempting to sing.) What’s it all abouuuuuut, Alfieee?! Alfie Boe: (Laughing and beginning to duet with Mickey.) Is it just for the moment we live? What's it all about, when you sort it out, Alfie? Laurence Connor: (Embarrassed.) Thanks, boys. Pleased to have you on board, Alfie. Alfie will be playing Molokov, everyone... Mickey Ball: Oh, and can I just say hands off my lunch-box... Cathy’s only done enough sandwiches for me and- (Stage-hand walks in carrying a 3’ x 3’ wooden chessboard.) (Rehearsals going well according to Twitter.)

I wonder if the Coliseum bar will be serving a “Molokov” Cocktail! 😬
(If they do, it was my idea... ok?)

I have been listening to the recording made at the Royal Albert Hall in 2008 and hope the orchestra at the ENO will be up to same standard. Groban and Menzel's voices complemented each other. I hope that will happen with our singers here too. Wish we had Bedella as Molokov. Menzel was too shrill for my taste tbh. But a good production in the main and I really liked Groban in it.

She really doesn’t seem to do herself any favours with the public. Even if it was a comment pertaining to a lack of spoken word acting, it certainly came across in a rather arrogant manner.
I hope the show is a success for all involved but there have been a few underwhelming performances over the years (RAH did nothing for me despite an incredible cast list on paper).

I hope the show is a success for all involved but there have been a few underwhelming performances over the years (RAH did nothing for me despite an incredible cast list on paper). It was a foolish/ naive comment in relation to her own character and as I understand it, it's a statement of fact. Not sure how it could be construed as arrogant, by any stretch of the imagination? As I understood it, she was expressing relief that she could concentrate on her singing for the role, as opposed to dialogue, which would likely be more out of her comfort zone. It's literally the opposite of arrogant.
