When you read news of Betty Buckley as Dolly on TOUR, and then a cast list like this for a bloody three month production, it really makes you wonder what the UK has to offer in terms of cast and talent. It's tragic if we've been waiting for THIS?
Tim Howar actually has a great voice.I can see him to do it. Same with Cassidy. But these are every day names that you don't get for something that's supposed to be the theatrical event of the season.
I like Alexandra Burke, but this is not her thing. Michael Ball..don't get me started.

I think they should let us do it. All of us. Every last one.

Murray Head is 71.
71.
Why don't they just bite the bullet and bring back Page and Korberg. Seeing the original cast would sell more tickets.

Well we had Boe last year so we might as well have the other one! 😂 Well there is that I guess 🙄 Don't they come as a 2 for 1 deal?

Ouch! What was that noise?
Oh. Don't worry. I think it was just the sound of a barrel being scraped.
As you were.

I don’t understand anyone’s issues with this. If they had announced a “big name - never done a musical before” cast you would all be raging. Instead it’s looking like a solid musical theatre cast of very experienced people (bar Burke). What is the problem?! And if you’re concerned as to who is getting the big bucks you’re paying for your ticket then have you seen the payday Ball gets in a musical??

If Ball is playing either of the male leads it is a stretch to believe the romantic element, so Chess as a sweeping love story is kaput from the get go. I’ve no problem with CJ or Howar at all. It is simply quite anticlimactic when the delay led us to believe that it would be something extra special.

If Ball is playing either of the male leads it is a stretch to believe the romantic element, In these times of "against type" casting, why should it be so unacceptable for an older person to play a younger one? I am a big fan of Mr Ball, but I always thought that Chess would benefit from a young cast. IMO there is not that much wrong with the book, but younger leads would help this complicated story.

But he might surprise us by still having the voice (they might even have considered giving him a rerun as Freddie!). It's not impossible - think of Ted Neeley still doing JCS into his 70s.

Has this rumour actually come from anywhere reputable? I can't believe that they think they are going to be able to sell the stalls at £105 and £150 per seat with those names.
I actually don't have any problems with the cast themselves, but it all seems so run of the mill and not at all worth the price tag.

If it is Mr Ball, they will move every front row and second row stalls seat they have. Though interestingly, they only have side block across most dates now. I bet front row for those Ball and Boe gigs weren’t far off the £100 mark were they? Some people will pay top whack to see Michael’s chubby cheeks up close.

OK, well, I was really looking forwards to this, but I really hope this cast isn't the actual cast.
I just cannot see that Alexandra Burke and Michael Ball would gel together on a stage at all. I just can't see it.

I just can't see it. I’m presuming they weren’t aiming for Ball if the Gaga rumour was also true then because I really can’t see Gaga and him having a connection!

If Ball is playing either of the male leads it is a stretch to believe the romantic element, In these times of "against type" casting, why should it be so unacceptable for an older person to play a younger one? Just because...there needs to be a logical through line of the relationships & rough age matching or it just won’t work. I know suspension of belief etc but Chess is quite a ‘human’ drama; theres’ no flying cars or fantastic proscenium engulfing sets here. So the relationships need to be believable if they are going to go through the trials and tribbianis within. Plus he’s not exactly a fantastic actor. HOWEVER! I had it on in the car on my way home just now and like Sunset before it I want to hear that score played by that orchestra so I just know I’ll end up there regardless.
