Went to this on a whim after reading the good reviews and I quite agree with them
New play from New Zealand by Emma Kinane, it follows a junior social worker consoling these two parents because their son has run away, as well as finding out the root cause. The play also switches with the son and his sister grown up and trying to leave the past behind
So you can figure out that nothing’s what it seems but Kinane keeps you invested as the truth slowly comes out with complex characters who have a myriad of problems.
More importantly the acting from the whole cast is top notch, working off each other brilliantly. It’s quite emotional by the second act
At times the story feels a little arbitrary, the scene changes felt clunky but I suppose it comes with being in a small space, and sometimes it looked as if these light strips didn’t know whether to stay on and off
But otherwise give this a go. Today’s matinee only had a few people in sadly

I spotted the NZ embassy in London tweeting about this recently, my better half is Kiwi so do like to keep an eye out for things like this. Going to tomorrow's matinee so hopefully a few more in the audience.

I booked this when the new season was announced & saw it this afternoon. Yes, very poorly attended & probably the smallest audience I've seen at the Finborough - but apparently last night's was sold out & the reviews have been good.
It did get a bit unrealistically melodramatic & overwrought in the second act for me, but still impressive and worth seeing.

Close to a full house for the matinee today. Great performances, really bouncing off each other. At times quite intense in a very small space, which sometimes felt even smaller as they make use of all the stage(floor!) space.
Certainly worth a look I think.

This is completely irrelevant to the play itself, but each time I see its title I can't stop laughing. In Russian "A nahera?" means smth like "why the f***?"

I think we were told it means "angel" in Maori.

Isn’t it what a Scotsman would say when presented with the bar bill? [ so politically incorrect I will have to award myself points and go into the naughty corner]

Saw this last week and would highly recommend it. Really strong performances and powerful production, possibly the more powerful due to the space being so small.
