The BFI Programme for October / November is out, featuring the first part of their musicals season with more to come in December. Lots of interesting screenings and special events (including some introductions and a Q&A with Patricia Ward Kelly, Gene's widow and biographer) Season details with booking links here. Member booking 17th Sept, public booking 24th Sept. Cossacks of the Kuban looks unmissable!

Ok so the 3D Kiss Me Kate will be on in December - better warn BFI that I'll be moving in!

And you can see all three in one day if you've got the energy!

I’m going to see Little Shop of Horrors at the BFI later tonight, still unsure about going to see anything else in this season.

I saw the screening of Cabaret last night at the DCA in Dundee. I've always loved the film version, It's a masterpiece in my opinion! It was so good seeing it at the cinema!
Also looking forward to the screening of The Umbrellas of Cherbourg which will look wonderful on a big screen!

Sondheim at the movies, David Benedict's talk at the BFI: What an interesting evening. I'm now greatly looking to Benedict's book on the master.
So London may be getting a production of Sweeney Todd next year. Sondheim greatly likes the film version of Sweeney, I'm not sure if likes any of the other film adaptions of his stage works.
Meryl Streep is apparently very open to flexibility, she will rehearse the part in many different ways until the creatives are happy. No fixed diva rigid thinking for her.
And most exciting Sondheim is still working on the Bunuel film adaptation. He is finding writing it difficult but act 1 is now complete and he has had "a change of personnel" which I guess means bye bye Ives and hello Jeremy Sams
