Sad to hear she has died, aged 62 after a short battle with cancer.

I can't believe this. Just read it on BBC news. What a loss... Thoughts to her family, friends, and to her many many fans, like me, who loved her and her incredible, amazing, wonderful talent. Thank you, Victoria, for everything you gave us.

What a shock, so sad. Saw her live a couple of times and remember crying with laughter. I rate dinnerladies as one of the best things ever on TV - not only very very funny but poignant and so beautifully written with the story arc tying up the last episode with the first. RIP Victoria and thank you.

Totally devasted. Her work has been such a part of my life since I was a teenager. There hasn't been a day when I've not slipped in a quote or two of hers.

This one, in a year of big losses, has really got to me. My mum is/was a big fan, and I grew up with repeats of Dinnerladies and As Seen On TV on UK Gold as it was then. Seemed like a lovely lady in real life as well, proven by her often working with a same group of people. I also really respect her for not always giving herself the best characters (Mrs Overall, the Two Soups lady, etc) even though she created them.
A couple of choice lines:
"I once went to one of those parties where everyone throws their car keys into the middle of the room. I don’t know who got my moped but I've been driving that Peugeot for years."
"I know I've got a degree. Why does that mean I have to spend my life with intellectuals? I've got a lifesaving certificate but I don't spend my evenings diving for a rubber brick with my pyjamas on."
And of course the whole of Barry and Freda.

Such a sad loss, a brilliant writer, comedian & actress. She was truely unique, grew up watching & admiring her body of what which has me both laugh & cry. A true talent that will be greatly missed.  |

I grew up watching Victoria Wood with my mother, with her asserting that I probably didn't understand it all and me asserting that I did, I probably didn't in truth but hers was not a humour that excluded but rather embraced and I continued to love her work as an adult. A real slap in the face this one.

So saddened by this news. It's rare to find a comedian whose work never mean or nasty, that pointed to life's absurdities with warmth and affection while being damn funny.

I don't think Ann Widdicombe would agree with you about never being mean or nasty. Oh I don't know. Anne seems to have a rather self deprecating sense of humour. Didn't you see her in Strictly? She allowed them to make her look absolutely ridiculous week after week. |

I thanked her for all the laughs she had given me, and told her she was my favourite comedian ever, but I was so star-struck that it came out completely wrong! So I wrote down what I meant to say and sent the letter to the stage door of The Haymarket when Acorn Antiques was on. I received a lovely note from her, thanking me for my "lovely letter, Love Victoria". I'm so glad I got to tell her how important she was to me. |

I was so upset when I heard the news via text yesterday from a friend.
I also grew up watching Victoria Wood and she is one of only 2 comedians who make me cry with laughter (the other one being Peter Kay).
I saw her a couple of times live doing stand up and also Acorn Antiques the Musical.
I was also lucky enough to be in the audience for 2 recordings of Dinner Ladies and the amazing thing was that she did her own warm up at the beginning of the show and a whole half episode was filmed in one take with no stops and just a few tweeks at the end. That doesnt happen with TV recordings.
Also had the pleasure of meeting her once when she was directing Talent. She was so nice but a very shy lady.
We now need repeats of As Seen on TV please
