Finally caught the first episode - and what a little gem of a show.
Full of heart, glitter and feathers.
I just loved the dad opening up about his struggles to accept his son's sexuality - what a kind soul he really is.
The drag team have some good moments.
I know they are playing on emotions - but I did blub 3 times!
Well worth a watch

I found it a bit depressing. Daylight is no friend to a drag queen for starters. They all looked dead rough. And I’m not sure I can sign up to the idea of drag artists ‘counselling’ real people with, if we are to believe it, real problems. Telling someone with social anxiety or self-image issues that they’re fabulous from the inside and all of the other usual clichés rings a bit hollow to me. Even exploitative maybe. The story about the dad accepting his son was ok but as subtle as being smacked round the head with a handbag.

Yes, it was rough and ready - but that is actually what a lot of drag is. It isn't the high glamour of Drag Race - it is about schlepping round clubs night after night, changing in toilets, dealing with hecklers.
And whilst they are not trained counsellors, they each have a lived experience - and that is valid. Giving someone a confidence boost, even for just one night, is still a worthwhile thing to do.
On the whole, it felt genuine to me with heart in the right place.

So what do we make of this. it's good that it is on, and the individual stories are usually well edited and very heartwarming - even if the whole process, as suggested, takes four days or something. very rushed. But it was only with the character in black with the long red veil looking like a Hollywood femme fatale last week where I thought she looks classy, and a character. too often they look as if they've fallen into a kids' art project. It's all about the cathartic and releasing effect of transformation, but heck sometimes a little restraint would work just as well.
