This new work by composer Charli Eglinton is being presented as a concert performance at The Other Palace Studio on 29 July at 7pm. Full disclosure - both of my nephews are in this, so I hope I’m not breaking any forum rules by posting something where I have an emotional (but not financial) bias! A concept album has been recorded - here’s some footage of the recording: Tickets available via the theatre website ( link). I’ll be there on the night brimming with pride!

Saw the workshop of this last night and it was BRILLIANT, one of the strongest workshops I've ever seen. They sold out the first one so added an extra show on Thursday, I'd highly recommend if anyone can go, that they do. lwtheatres.co.uk/whats-on/8-a-steampunk-opera/For anyone put off by the Opera, don't be. It's much more of a musical/opera hybrid - I'd never really chose to go to a full-on opera but I absolutely loved this, it was really accessible imo.

Glad to hear you enjoyed it too, Rukaya ! I know I'm biased but I would definitely have enjoyed that even if my nephews weren't in it. The creator Charli Eglinton is astonishingly talented, irrespective of her young age. I agree it's definitely more of an opera/musical hybrid - Charli mentioned in her introduction that she's hoping to smash the boundaries between the two. Please could BurlyBeaR move this to the Musicals board instead if possible? I was expecting a standard concert performance, but this is actually more than that - the cast are in costume and acting against each other (as opposed to stood singing to microphone). There are also some projections to help explain the narrative (given this is a cut-down version of the full piece) and with some artwork to give an idea of the author's vision. Here are some photographs from the Monday performance via the show facebook page: I'm far too biased to comment on how excellent the cast are, but I'll say it anyway! I wish I could be there for the Thursday performance, I'd love to hear opinion from anyone here who does go.
