Stands down as Tory leader 7th June, hangs around as PM in No.10 until the Tories pick their next leader, which will probably take into July.

Vince Cable apparently stands down soon too. Jeremy Corbyn turns 70 on Sunday so could there be changes in all 3 parties soon.
If you want to get Brexit through and have someone who could win an election then I think it is Boris.
But America had Obama and now have Trump so they cannot say anything.

Apparently my MP has thrown his hat into the ring, I think his chances are HELLA unlikely but I'd like to apologise anyway...

Boris makes my skin crawl, opportunist with no redeeming features and will never let the truth interfere with his agenda.
Sadly this is what we expect of politicians these days, so will likely win.
We will end up with an unelected Prime Minister pushing through an unpopular mandate (forced through no-deal Brexit) the only way the Conservatives can rid themselves of their bogey man Farage.
Interesting to see if the Lib Dem’s can find a charismatic leader (no evidence of one yet) as the two party system is stressed to breaking point as both Labour and the Conservatives cannot square the circle that is the 52% / 48% split in their core voters between leave and remain perfectly demonstrated by the Labour Party who went into the European elections with no firm European Policy and the Conservatives who did not even try.
The European election was an opportunity to focus on the Lib Dem’s/Greens and Farage to gauge the sentiment of the Country which will be distilled by the Conservative/Labour votes which cannot be confidently interpreted as a stay/leave vote and Farage if he wins will further muddy the water by stating if the polls are true that leaving is the mandate of the nation irrespective of the 60%/70% who voted for the other Parties.

I really am bewildered at the ongoing popularity of Boris Johnson. I wish I could fathom it, the only things people have ever said to me in his defence are 'he makes me laugh' and 'he's funny'. An admirable quality indeed but not what I'm looking for in a political leader. Plus the sheer depth of his incompetence and dishonesty. But then we have Trump........so....
There was a very apt cartoon I saw somewhere yesterday (no idea where!) of a bus that had been driven off a cliff edge and a speech balloon saying 'Time to change the driver'. Theresa May knowingly accepted the poisoned chalice that was getting a Brexit deal, let's be honest her successor is not inheriting a chalice that has been washed clean. When will this foolishness end?
Despite being an ardent Remainer I do not advocate stopping the process but at least take a decent pause while you sort out what you actually want. The global shame is just too much

Even though I loathed Theresa May, sad to see her leave in tears, it made the Maybot more personable.
Boris Johnston has no hidden agenda, he is only motivated by just one thing and it ain’t Brexit.

Oh she cried did she?
Over her own sorry backside.
Didn't cry about Grenfell. Didn't cry about the hostile environment she created for immigrants. Didn't cry over Windrush scandal. Didn't cry over the people dying waiting for DWP payments. Didn't cry over voting against virtually all LGBT friendly legislation
But managed to squeeze a few tears out for herself.

Didn't cry about Grenfell. No, in fact she even claimed some kind of credit for righting the wrongs of Grenfell. Any expressions of sympathy for her frankly beggar belief. She quoted advice on compromise given her by Nicholas Winton. This, from a PM whose entire MO was based on intransigence, secrecy and the determination to not listen to anyone else. She actually insulted him by invoking his words. She deserves absolutely no sympathy whatsoever. And re this thread title. Why do we persist in referring to this deeply unpleasant man chummily by his first name? I cling to the fact that he is generally disliked and resented within the parliamentary party and that should scupper his chances but reality seems to be in freefall in so many respects.

^ I mean they shouldn’t but sure, whatever you like. It’s not like this board is moderated to within an inch of its life and anyone who says anything you slightly disagree with gets banned or warnings or whatever other nonsense you’re dolling out this week lads.
But sure, carry on.

But sure, carry on. I made the comment that's just been moderated. While I deeply and genuinely feel what I said, and would rather it stood, I understand the reasons for the edit and can't agree with criticism of the moderators who undertake a role that's trickier and more time-consuming than is generally supposed. I wouldn't want to do it.

Please do not edit or censor my comments without consulting me first in the future.
Perhaps you might want to spend time a little more productively policing the racism on this board

Yes EXACTLY THIS Cried because that's the only thing that gets her to show vaguely human emotion - her own loss of purpose. Good riddance to the creature.

I came here to make an on-topic comment about the current political situation and appear to have walked into a competition about who can make the most offensive and childish comment towards the moderating team. Seems like the current state of British politics is being reflected in here!
I don't always agree with their decisions, but the moderators are doing this for free and giving up their own time, so I think it's more than a little rude to be so bluntly unappreciative of them. This is far from a dictatorship - people do go too far and say things that have no place on this forum, whether they think so or not, and this board would be intolerable if it was completely anything goes.
I've noticed a few long-standing eminently sensible members appear to have drifted away from here in recent months (NOT been banned). With the type of arguments that have arisen and the unpleasant tone of an increasing number of posts recently, I can't say I blame them.

Some may have drifted, but others *have* been banned, and it's not necessarily fair or accurate to imply that all the people who left under their own steam "drifted" when I know there are several who purposefully left out of solidarity. I don't think that's a secret, is it?

if it's not a secret then it's not widely known... I can think of a few who haven't bee around recently, but can't I see why any of them have been banned.

Can’t understand the decision to ban someone and when asked for a reason I got told ‘we don’t discuss mod decisions’. Others have then left in solidarity and others actively now avoiding the board. A shame as the characters are (were) part of the heart of the board having also been around since the old board existed!

I can think of a few people who posted a goodbye message before leaving, but those threads never seem to last long, so I guess it's difficult to track people leaving voluntarily if you're not either on the board all day long (guilty) or in contact with said people via other websites.

I don't think that's a secret, is it? (Edited to add: this did actually start out as a reply to Baemax but somewhere along the way I kind of lost track of where I was going with it, so please don't take this as a dig at Baemax. It's a general comment I want everyone to think about.)
It baffles us on the staff as to why so many of you think we're being underhand or malicious. We work bloody hard to make this place work. I don't know how much time the other staff put in but for me it's two to four hours a day seven days a week, and when things really kick off it can take all my free time for several days. It's basically a job in terms of hours, but one for which we get no pay.
And it's not just expensive in terms of time. It has an effect on our mental health. I have ASD and criticism of our fairness has a disproportionately catastrophic effect on me (think "twenty minutes of pounding my head with my fists" catastropic) and I'm not the only one who's suffered severely for this. I mean, think, people. What effect do you think it has when you're constantly snipping away at someone year after year? You may think it's really funny to keep making snide comments but you wouldn't be laughing if you were on the receiving end.
And sometimes it also costs us actual money. It interferes with our jobs.
So why the hell would we set out to screw it up by picking on people? What's in it for us?
I really want to hear some answers to that question. None of us really know each other except through the forum: we're just people who happened to be on hand when WhatsOnStage decided to close the old forum and stepped up to open a new place for everyone. Nevertheless, it seems to be an article of faith with some of you that if someone complains that they haven't been treated fairly it must be because a group of complete strangers have, I dunno, picked a name out of a hat or something and said "Hey, let's be unfair to that person" even though it'll create a toxic atmosphere in this forum we've worked so hard to set up.

I think almost every member respects the amount of hours the moderators put in. We all know what a massive commitment it must be and are incredibly grateful.
But at the same time respect is earned and easily lost. I am sure ye are aware a twitter chat has been established full of the old members (although open to anyone) where we discuss theatre freely without the worry of comments being edited or removed. Hence the lack of presence of older members on the board currently. We do not tolerate racism, bullying or homophobic comments and if someone does cross the line we are very open with them as to why they have crossed the line.
Well respected members have been banned from this forum with no reason offered to them or offered to long standing members who requested clarification. In addition goodbye posts from long standing members going back to the WhatsOnStage days have been removed. That is not the behavior of a moderating team with nothing to hide.
You talk about mental health, but how do you think someone must feel having been a member of this board for years and then suddenly banned without any explanation? Suddenly their part in the community is lost. Everything in life works both ways. Treat people the way you would like to be treated and you will be treated the same in return. It costs nothing to be a decent human. Be more open and honest with members, none of us are children here.

Some basics. One member has been banned after posting a specific comment about a specific person which they were specifically asked not to do a matter of a week or two previously. One person has left and asked for their account to be deleted. One person has stopped posting after fully justified warning points were given following complaints about a post.
We do not allow “Im leaving because...” posts from ANYone. 99% of the people visiting this forum are not interested.
We do not discuss moderation decisions with anyone but the person involved.
If someone is claiming that they don’t know the reason for their ban, they’re either deliberately misrepresenting what happened, or they have somehow forgotten very recent messages received from moderators asking them to desist from certain behaviour.
If you see a post you think is racist, homophobic, misogynistic or anything else that breaks the rules, report it.
Please don’t post in threads that you’ve reported posts when you have not, in order to make it look like mods are not taking action.
This doesnt seem to be about Boris Johnson anymore. Thread closed.
