At least he’s not citing the Magna Carta to justify himself

I don’t think his threat helps the cause at all. Most people want him to be arrested. Could be an enormous own goal.

It's a new musical trying to open during this pandemic and as we come out of lock down, it's a show that has suffered more than most with all it's false starts, and do you know what? I just feel like there doesn't need to be the level of negativity and mickey taking, especially before anyone has even seen the show. We should be encouraging and uplifting, not tearing something down. If you don't like what you have heard or know about the show so far, fair enough, but there's no need to be so loud about it either?

But we are not talking about the show, but its creator, who threatens to break the law and puts the theatre industry in a bad light.

I don't think you have to look back many posts to see people being that way about the show/endevour itself and indeed it's strewn across the entire thread.
I just think that at a time like this, when theatre is trying to get back on it's feet, shows are trying to open that have had false starts and difficult beginnings, theatres are trying to re-open and put on shows, often at a loss or breaking even at best, performers are finally back in work after over a year of next to no opportunities or support, new graduates are only just getting a chance to shine.....all that, I just think we can take a look at how we respond to and talk about theatre at the moment. I'd rather be positive and uplifting than be negative and miserable about stuff, I'd rather support than tear down. Of course people can have negative opinions and think how they want to think but at the same time that doesn't always need to be vocalized so loudly, and if it does, there are ways of going about it that aren't so harsh or joyfully nasty.

I've kept out of the whole ALW/Cinderella debate as its annoying me but you have summed up my thoughts much better than I could have.

Yes I echo those views.
The sensible approach would have been to open if full capacity was needed a bit after 21st June as has been stated many times that was always the earliest date that full capacity would be allowed. But I wish the show well and look forward to seeing it at some point.

But I wish the show well and look forward to seeing it at some point. I agree. It was admirable for ALW to want to lead the return of full capacity audiences but it was always a huge risk targeting a date so soon after 21 June. Having taken that gamble, it will be sad if the opening date does get pushed back, but there was always a reasonable likelihood that could happen. Hopefully the first performance on 25 June might still get the green light on Monday and at least any delay is likely to be 2-4 weeks at the most.

I don't know how much the book changes during the previews, but they can't wait around that long if they want Emerald Fennel to be there — it'll be much harder once her baby has arrived.
Obviously they should work within the guidelines and make sure it's safe, but I wonder if that is adding a bit of time pressure.

People are entitled to be negative as well as positive no matter what the circumstances. If it isn't done in a nasty way then I don't really think there should be any censorship.

Plus the songs we’ve heard so far weren’t leaked without the creatives’ permission, it’s literally promo material used to create buzz around the show and give people an idea of what to expect. We’re allowed to criticise the material designed to reflect the entire show if we don’t enjoy it

Can we get back to imagining ALW in prison please?

It wasn't meant to be such a controversial comment — I just thought as a key member of the creative team she'd have to be there (and want to be there!) for the previews, which would be difficult with a tiny baby.
I suppose the soundtrack release will be put off again if they have to delay the opening? Has anybody had an update on when their vinyls will arrive?

EF and CHF were both on Graham Norton’s radio program last weekend. EF was saying how long it had been since she wrote it - four years. He asked her if she’s still dabbling with it and she said the jokes are getting dirtier and the Magic Mike dance sequences are getting longer…

Can we get back to imagining ALW in prison please? Perhaps he can write a show about an old musical guy in a mask who hangs around in theatres and is prepared for people to die if he doesn't get his way.

If the leak about 21st June is true then ALW has a problem! I think we can be fairly sure he’ll not be opening previews with a full audience so eat crow on that one Andy. But then what does he do?

It'll be a bit of a mess. Have most performances sold well?
