ALW has posted another 30 second music excerpt on his Facebook page, and on Twitter too.
Lockdown must be so much easier if you're a multi-millionaire with a large retinue. 🙂 Just think how much bigger his country estate could have been if he hadn't signed away a 75% interest in TPOTP! 😉

Postponed until next year - previews from 21 March 2021, opening night 7 April. Not unexpected really and makes sense - if usual flu season ends in March, previews are basically starting as soon as realistically possible. I hope ALW has never had such a delayed opening before, so I hope he/they take the time to really keep working on the show and make it as perfect as it can be - it could really work in the shows favour and who knows, maybe even give him that elusive hit that started life this side of the Atlantic.

More time to work on something isn’t necessarily a good thing. It’s easily done to keep messing with something good and make it worse.

A lot of his later musicals could have done with a lot more time to be developed before being unleashed on the public.

maybe even give him that elusive hit that started life this side of the Atlantic. Like JCS, Evita or Cats? I presume you mean more recently. I hope he can get it seen by an audience of some kind before next year. You can only really judge a show properly when you get a proper reaction from an audience and 2.5 weeks of previews isnt much for a new show, especially given ALW's temprement during that period!

Hasn't everything ALW has ever written other than JCS and School of Rock premiered this side of the Atlantic?!
Anyway - no great surprise I guess. I had a preview ticket which hopefully will be transferred over to a date I can make :-)

Oh yeah, that's true - forget about that production!

I probably didn’t explain it right - ALW made comments a few years ago that he was aware he hadn’t had a hit in London for a very long time. This isn’t the right quote, but he says as much in 2015: I’m fairly sure he did an interview saying School of Rock going to Broadway first was a way of giving it a better chance of becoming a hit, because all of his shows that had ‘recently’ opened in London had flopped... because it’s harder to open a musical in London than it is on Broadway (and make it a hit). Which of course is reasonably true - it’s not impossible nor the rule, but the majority of musicals on the west end seem to be imports that have enjoyed Broadway success. SOR was of course a hit - and started life outside the UK. Coincidence? Maybe, but let’s see what happens with Cinderella.

ALW hasn’t had a hit in years because the shows were all dreadful or had the wrong set (LND and WIW).
The pink and dark gray design for Cinderella is dreadful and the new photos I saw today look amateur.

If only the revised LND had opened in London. Much more coherent & tuneful and borderline enjoyable.

When they announced the show was delayed it mentions that they still have casting to do so I’m guessing it won’t be a full cast recording of the show. It might be a few songs to market the show and generate some interest. Whatever it is I’m looking forward to some new musical theatre content!

He has recorded cast albums with a different cast to the one that reached the stage.
Or it might be sold as a concept album - like in the good ol' days

Smoke & Mirrors & time travel I reckon...that lovely song that they were listening to through a window was clearly backed by a full orchestra. Hopefully we will be getting that (plus more hopefully).
