I'm not proud of this, but for some reason I thought she was already dead.
Will always remember the first time I saw Calamity Jane at my grandparents' house, first time I'd seen a movie musical that wasn't Disney and I thought it was brilliant!

Very sad news. She was a legend but had a good long life and loved her animals.

Yes, extremely sad news.
I one say a documentary that explained how complicated her life was off camera.
Hopefully, things will now be less complicated for her and she can now rest.
The world over will be saddened by this loss.

I recently started gathering the box sets of her recordings, it will be very poignant to listen to them now. Funny I never saw her as a singer with albums, despite that voice she had, but once you start digging many stars recorded albums (she's not a good example of this as she started as a singer) Plus she fought for animals. Class act

I actually have Doris Day's greatest hits- which includes songs from her films- that I borrowed from the local library and her last CD on my phone as part of my I-tunes play list

Tbf she was nearly 100! She retired from movies far too early and was Mike Nichols' first choice as Mrs Robinson in The Graduate. Imo her best film was Love me or leave me opposite James Cagney.

Michael Ball hosted a one hour special about her on BBC Radio Two earlier today and a very enjoyable hour it was too.
Based on an interview he did with her a few years ago and with lots of her songs thrown in.
Well worth a listen on catch up.
