I agree that it is very random and there were many more complex performances, take the Follies ladies for instance. And Audra McDonald was not even nominated for Best Actress in a Play. What is that about?

I loved her voice in the show but her acting was way off, she played Wednesday as a whiny spoiled brat!

Twitter and Youtube. She has a massive following. As long as a public vote is there her fans will nominate her and then vote for her. Seeing the production is immaterial.

The real problem is believing that there's some kind of reasoning behind who wins these awards, they're just a popularity context. I mean, David Tennant's winning is almost equally bewildering.

As documented in this thread, I like the girl I do. She's great at acting through song, but I found her Wednesday ....unconvincing at best. As others have said WOS are a popularity contest though so...it figures (also *cough* she was hosting their red carpet coverage *cough*)

It’s hilarious how aggy people get when their fave doesn’t win. Theres some lad on twitter going on and on about her not deserving it in the rudest possible way, tagging her in it etc. I’d take a step back if I was her...

I do like CHF and when I've met her she seems a genuine person but some of her fans are very hardcore and think they own her. I'm sure Jeff Wayne and the War of the Worlds producers must be rubbing their hands at the number of tickets her following may buy for the autumn arena tour.

Is she talking about herself? If so I wouldnt say she was in the public eye. She is a bit "niche". Also depends on the stranger who asked. Could be fun.

Lordy some of her other replies are classic Carrie. Honestly I get that it might be a bit weird that someone has done it (in person, if it's online just do what we all do with weridos on the internet and ignore them...) I'm betting 99% of such people are fairly innocent requests from young girls thinking they could be 'friends' with her. And it strikes me as a bit mean to talk about them like that online. Most of them will grow out of the infatuation and realise it was a bit silly to ask and be mortified enough without her making more of a fuss. I really dislike her comments about it never being a balanced relationship. I know friends who have become friendly with actors initially in being admirers of their work, but as grown adults it has morphed into a real friendship. So I think she shows her nativity and sense of self importance a bit there. ETA actually on that last bit, f*** it so have I. And I'm not following them around worshipping them. Get off your high horse Carrie

I just can't help it - she comes across as slightly full of herself.
I'm friends with a couple of performers. Most of them I first talked to at the theatre. So it was very much a audience member / performer type of relationship in the beginning. I didn't worship them in the beginning, I most definitely don't worship them now. We're all human beings - just because their work involves performing in front of an audience doesn't mean they are in some way "above" me. Just the thought is ridiculous.
I suppose Carrie's fans are often younger and possibly more exitable. So I can see how they might idolize her. 13 years old me wouldn't have been able to have a balanced relationship with Robbie Williams either. ;-)
But like @emicardiff has said, she really needs to get off her high horse.

But like @emicardiff has said, she really needs to get off her high horse. Exactly that- I don't doubt some of these are excitable 13 year olds, in which case it's unkind to talk about them where they will no doubt see it in that way. But the idea that we 'can't' have a friendship is insulting to 'grown ups' who either encounter people through professional circumstances who they admire as an actor, and/or through seeing their work frequently strike up an evolving genuine friendship. But also generally she just needs to get off her high horse!

I always get a frisson of excitement when I see the CHF thread update, and it rarely disappoints 😋.
She continually makes the mistake of lecturing her entire fan base via social media when ONE PERSON has wronged her. It’s like when bad managers issue bollockings to their entire team because they’re scared of confronting the individual who screwed up.
Grow a pair Carrie.

I normally don't mind her but she is coming across as patronising and full of her self importance. She's not a Hollywood A Lister, she's someone who has got very lucky and had great opportunities due to a famous family member.
To give a half story is just inviting wrong interpretations and the passive aggressive insults followed by a token xxx at the end. She invites attention by putting herself in the public eye, then complains when she gets attention as a result. If it wasn't for her loyal fans, whom she seems to be always complaining about, she wouldn't get leading lady work that's for sure.

I checked back on Carrie's poll and 76% of her fans answered the absolute opposite to the point she was hoping to prove. That's made my day to be honest 😂

Fans can get possessive, what will happen when CHF gets a partner, will her fans hate on them for taking CHF away from them! I totally agree with the bad manager point, I've had issues with this before and called the manager out to confront person in question! I know a fair few performers and I know people who are fans and friends of performers and they may hook up for a coffee if performer is in town. I've been in bars where I've seen performers I know and we would acknowledge each other or I might say nice performance but I'd never invite myself onto their table etc.
