it's not my favourite musical, I like it alot but I've never gotten the hype really... but I'd 100% get behind this one!

Great news as it means I don’t have to see the pallid tour.
I wonder who will play Wilbur, oddly enough I would love to see Ross Noble gives this a crack, that boy was sensational in Young Frankenstein.

This isn't an ENO musical - it's a commercial hire at the London Coliseum like On Your Feet and Bat Out of Hell. So will be interesting to see whether they price it like a regular West End musical - or like the Grade/Linnit/ENO productions.

Top price is £89 I’ve heard, with premiums at £150...

Is this going to have the original costumes and set? If so I will be there. If it's going to be like the recent tour I will give it a miss.

I had the pleasure of seeing the original production in London twice before so I am very excited by this news.

Ohhh this is exciting! Hairspray is one of my favorite shows and I've longed to see Michael Ball as Edna. This might be a full priced ticket purchase.

I really hated the show when I saw it in its original London home. I’ve always wondered why I didn’t get it. Maybe it was all the hype? I want to give it another go but I’m not sure I’ll be able to afford the Coliseum’s prices.

The first UK tour of this was the show that made me fall in love with musical theatre - I absolutely cannot wait for this.

Saw Michal Ball in the first tour. He was fantastic, totally owned every scene he was in and highlighted the difference between a real MT star when compared with some of the stunt casting we see these days. It will be good to have a big, lavish production after the increasingly cut-price versions that have been touring since that first one but I doubt I’ll be lured to London to see this. Never say never though eh 😬.
Oh, and no fat suits for Tracy please!

"initial 12 week run" sounds interesting. this will be a huge hit and will no doubt extend. this is what the Coliseum has needed from these Summer shows. Well, the ENO doesn't have an artistic director at the moment so they could just have an open-ended run if it does well!

I am looking forward to it. I never saw the original run as this was the time before i actually bit the bullet and started going to London to see things. But it was really the show along with Wicked that piqued my interest in Theatre.
I did see the Curve production and subsequent (not as good) tours of it but i'm definitely interested in seeing the original, especially with Micheal Ball.
That said, i'm not entirely sure this is going to be a guaranteed success. Hairspray has been round the block with these tours already.

ENO 20-21 season opens 20th September 2020, so it will have to be gone by then.

I am going to be so poor. I love this show.
I'd love it if Tracie Bennett came back too.

Looks like:
Stalls: £95 midweek / £105 weekends Dress Circle: £59.50 & £95 midweek, £72.50 & £105 weekends
Other prices (weekends) £105.00 £72.50 £52.50 £45.00 £35.00 £22.50
Then premium seats too. Plus presumably ticketmaster booking fees.
So similar pricing to Man of La Mancha I think.
Note booking is through ticketmaster, not the ENO site, confirming this is a commercial hire with no ENO involvement.

Well you live and learn ... never realised there was a Coliseum site distinct from the ENO site londoncoliseum.org/whats-on/hairspray/?action=bookYou're right, cheaper and a wider range of prices, and you can select from the seating plan. For instance non-premium stalls are £97.50 as opposed to £105 via ticketmaster (which is linked from the Hairspray site). Difference is a £7.50 booking fee through ticketmaster, plus a £1.75 "handling fee". Direct from the Coliseum there's a £2.25 booking fee per ticket on top of the £97.50.

Saw Michael Ball at The London Palladium on Tuesday night, his voice is fabulous and the place went wild when he did his Hairspray number. Am at Heathrow picking up Americans with almost no battery and had to book tickets. I predict a big hit with this.

I have never seen this, and I have never seen Michael Ball on stage, so colour me all sorts of excited about this.
Big +1 to @burlybear and the no fat suits comment.

It would be 100% against the spirit of the musical to have a Tracey in a fatsuit, given that half the point of the musical is to create great roles for the fat girl and the drag queen, particularly in schools productions where those kids would so often be stuck in the back of the chorus. Although that said, it's my understanding that Traceys often lose weight over the course of a run because of how ridiculously energetic the show is, so some Traceys do end up with a little extra padding in their costumes.

But Micheal Ball was in Chess..... Chess did not sell out and nor did his recent London Palladium concert. This is going to need more names for it to be a commercial success
