I have a sneaky suspicion that it’s made ‘worth his while’ to talk favourably about certain shows. I find it odd how every Now and again- the current Joseph for example, he won’t stop banging on about how amazing it all is, week after week. He seems to have a very good ‘relationship’ with those producers.

They've... well, they've cast him as Ramses, that's what they've done.

Minor heart attack. So glad Liam is finally getting a proper big break. Is there much loincloth action in this?
Dang, I wanted to sulk and avoid the Dominion for at least another year, but I sense another bunch of front row bookings in my near future...

So casting anyone remotely brown, Indian, mixed race or African passes for Egyptian, Palestinian/Israeli now? The hypocrisy from the performing arts industry is staggering...

I wasn't majorly impressed by Luke Brady's voice in Sweeney Todd, but I'm very excited for Liam

Wasn't expecting this strong of a cast; looking forward to see who's in the supporting cast.

Damn, really didn’t care about this show but then they went and cast Christine Allado so now I’m probably going to have to get a ticket.

Perhaps its nothing to do with race. Perhaps its because they were the best for the parts out of who auditioned. I cant imagine theres many strictly israeli/Palestinian experiences performers.

However,we saw him in a Voter's Choice production of Twelfth Night, two years ago I think, and he was just fantastic. He played the Fool so did a lot of singing and was probably the strongest actor onstage. I wasn't looking to see this, but have just brought 2 cheap circle tickets as the casting is just fab.

I cant imagine theres many strictly israeli/Palestinian experiences performers. Certainly Israel stages most of the major musicals in Tel Aviv, and has a pretty wide and experienced musical theatre performing industry. Sorry maybe I should have been clearer. I know it has an established industry over there but my point was does that talent necessarily transfer over here in the same volumes? The point being this is in a big theatre so experience will have been a factor. Rather than race which the poster I replied to was inferring

I get your point now. The transfer of actors between countries is more down to union agreements and the actors themselves wanting to work overseas. If both issues were resolved, it would be possible to cast a "correct" ethnic mixture of West End quality, for sure. That's being seen, for comparison, in "Evita" at Regent's Park. How to cast without that, though, is tricky indeed. True , and there seems to be an awful lot of UK talent on overseas tours at the moment , because there's far too little to do domestically - for a whole set of reasons including overseas producers using their own names.
Why would you, though, want to sift much smaller talent pools , with even less of that talent willing to travel, to produce lower quality casts with the right ethnic backgrounds, or worse , approximate look . And if thats what you want for Evita or West Side Story you have to logically put a stop to Black Henry Vs, or Eponines. lets just let the best people do it, and allow that actors are trained to speak in accents.
The op had a point. if you want to respect ethnic origins do it properly or not at all . and go colour blind. . Its just downright insulting to have anyone remotely brown playing Eyptians or Israelis - just as the Vietnamese must be amazed by being played by actors in Miss Saigon who come from all the Asian countries that fought against them.

Fine with that, provided Gary leaves in October so that he can do the Palladium as usual... The prince of Egypt is currently running till 12th of September 2020. So he should be able to do the Palladium panto.
