Much as it pains me to say it, I agree with James Jordan. Kevin had his chance this series - so it should have been one of the unpartnered professionals who stepped in. Gorka would have been a perfectly good partner for Alex. So Alex should have had to learn to dance with a 3rd different partner purely to give Gorka a chance (one which I don't think he deserves given his social media behaviour when he wasn't chosen last weekend)? That would have been extremely unfair! Whether it is fair to the pros really doesn't matter at all in this instance, the only thing that does is what is fair for Alex, and that has to be dancing with Kevin again given Neil isn't yet recovered. Have to say her rehearsal footage on Instagram doesn't look good though - her posture is awful!

For all we know, Gorka may have had a more prominent role in the pro routines which would've been filmed on the Saturday afternoon, so maybe it was easier for Kevin to step in if his role was smaller. We don't know. Not everything is a conspiracy! 😀 Yes it is! It is all a conspiracy 😂

Who said anything about conspiracies?
I thought the point of the unpartnered pros was that they would be the ones who would step in should an injury occur.

The choice of replacement could be as prosaic as who fit the costume better or as important as who had a better rapport with the pro.

Conspiracy or not, if it was really only half an hour before the show that Neil had to bow out, then possibly Thingy was the only one not in the toilet or outside having a quick fag. So they hauled him in. Just a suggestion.

There is history of eliminated pros stepping in ahead of the reserves - Gorka stepped in to replace Brendan Cole instead of Neil for one week when Brendan was with Anastacia.

I just voted for the Vicountess because I think the judges were awful to her though she did lose it a tad. And what with Mike, not in sync, rubbish steps and what? They loved it. I honestly think I’m watching a parallel programme. I think Emma and Anton are in trouble. Shame

Shame I think there was an obvious push to get rid of both the Emmas tonight, and the over-scoring of Mike makes it all very hard to wrap your head around. Be interesting to see quite how far they think they can get Mike and Katya....

Had to go and look, was watching what turned out to be Chris and thinking well that's out of time and then actually got to Mike and even wonkier, scoring most odd.

There has been some backlash on twitter with people saying Emma and Anton were under-marked, so I wonder if that will boost keep her out of the dance off. There was some odd marking - apparently Mike got death threats, etc. after surviving last week's dance off (file under: the world has gone mad) so I wonder if the judges were particularly generous with him. I think he will survive this week, but probably not much further.
Anton's choreography is weaker than most of the professionals and I gather Emma's work schedule is punishing - with a different partner and more time she would likely be doing much better. Anton is used to blaming his partners, which he really can't do this year. I don't think I've ever seen him look so angry before.
Thought Karim was great. Like Chris, but didn't get that dance and it seemed messy. Someone on twitter said they think the Couple's choice is a bit of a Get Out of Jail card.

Oh was Chris' couples choice? That would explain a lot, I was baffled as to what it was, this is what comes to watch on catch up and just jumping through the dances.
The world is truly mad when people think you can blame someone from surviving the dance off like they have any control over it but then sadly we don't need more evidence of the madness to show it's the case.

Mike wasn't amazing but I don't get what benefit the BBC supposedly get from keeping him in.
If he was particularly popular he wouldn't need the 'help' but he clearly isn't, hence ending up in the dance off last week so why would they bother.

Gorka would have been a perfectly good partner for Alex. I think it was very short notice and Kevin was probably the "safest pair of hands" to go with for that week. It might even be that he is closer to the same size as Neil than Gorka or Graziano. One week a few years back when Brendan Cole had to fly back to New Zealand for a personal issue Ian Waite stepped in as it was a ballroom dance and he was deemed the best available person. Ian wasn't a pro on the show then but an expert on It takes Two. Also Gorka is only 1.56 metres tall according to online, Alex is 1.63 metres and Kevin is 1.65 metres so Kevin might have been the best height wise for her. Neil is 1.83 metres so Alex was with a smaller partner regardless unless they'd have used Graziano and I don't think he'd have been right to do the Ghostbusters routine.

Ok, watched the programme. My eye test is booked for next week. I’m obviously suffering serious sight problems.

Ok, watched the programme. My eye test is booked for next week. I’m obviously suffering serious sight problems. I agree (again!). I was prepared to give the judges/producers the benefit of the doubt until I'd watched the dance-off, just in case Emma and Alijaz made some big mistake. I'm no dancer, but to me, whilst it wasn't the best samba, Emma's dance contained no noticeable mistakes. Mike barely seemed to move from the spot in his Charleston, and, once again, he seemed to come very close to dropping Katya in one of their lifts. Mike clearly isn't getting the public vote, so why are the show so keen on keeping him in?!

Nope, baffling, I know nothing about dancing and can't dance at all but I think even I could make a good stab at Mike's dance since it mainly seemed to be just stepping.

Yes there was a clear mistake from Mike. It's a real shame that he has been kept in at the expense of Emma and Catherine.

Couldn’t understand Craig’s justification of it being “more challenging” when I think most could have a decent crack at it after a few hours (or even less) of rehearsal!

Couldn’t understand Craig’s justification of it being “more challenging” when I think most could have a decent crack at it after a few hours (or even less) of rehearsal! Me too. I believe Craig, generally gives the most coherent feedback, in spite of the panto style delivery. So his justification tonight seems really off. In fairness, in terms of a Charleston, it was not that challenging compared to some of the past. Some stomping and skipping and poor swivel, which Craig (who is always quick to critique swivel) never picked Mike up on. No ill feeling towards Mike but this smacks of producers melding to me. Some great dances last night and I still feel bad for Will, what a guy!

Craig's enthusiasm mystified me. I’ve seen better dances than Mike's at weddings. What are we missing?
