Well, there are a LOT of theatres which are going to need shows come February time and not many rumours as to what will go where. If critical hits like Fun Home aren't deemed worthy of a West End run, it's hard to know what will be!

I definitely think this show could sustain a limited run in a small-ish house come feb/march time.
Afterall all it got great reviews, many people will return to see it I imagine and I can't imagine it has high running costs. All it needs is some decent promo and word of mouth should do the rest hopefully.

they spent a lot redesigning it to be End-on staging Really? The original production at the Public was staged in the Newman, which is a proscenium theatre with all the seats directly facing the stage, and the US tour played proscenium theatres only. It's just the Broadway production that was staged in the round; I know the London design was not exactly the same as the ones used at the Public and on tour, but designing it for an end-on staging can't have been that complicated, surely, given that the same designer had already produced two set designs for the show for that kind of space?

The intention had, of course, been for it to cross the Thames and they spent a lot redesigning it to be End-on staging for that reason/hope, as it could have easily played in the square at the YV as in New York. Really? All they did was shove a house on! Money for old rope!

I also know - and pointed out - that the Young Vic design wasn't precisely the same as the ones they used at the Public and on the US tour, which were also not the same as, well, each other. Your post suggested that designing it "for an end-on staging" required a huge amount of adaptation. Designing it for different wingspace, a different stage depth, a different flying system or whatever might have required a certain amount of adaptation, but it's not as if the show had only previously been staged in the round, which is what you implied.

Totally agree with Jenna’s thoughts. What makes Twilight Zone any more of a commercial success in the WE than Fun Home? I would love to have an answer to this question.

To be fair, if she passed up a role in the gloriousness that is Follies to continue in this average musical where all she really gets to sing is a dirge about her awful husband, then it's on her

(sorry for bumping this up, it isn't any exciting announcement)
For anyone in the know, how close was this to getting a quick return to London ? It's clear now it wont be making a fairly immediate return as was predicted due to the cast saying they were 'on hold'. It was my show of 2018 and even though there's still a chance of a West End transfer, the longer from closing of the previous production, the less likely.

Sydney Lucas gave a showstopping performance of Ring of Keys on the Tony's when Fun Home won its five awards. This attempt to do something similar at the Oliviers fell terribly flat, maybe because the show's no longer running and the actress has forgotten how to tell the story of the song. She sang all the right words (in the right order) but it just lost its narrative somehow. Fun Home is still a far better show than Come From Away though.

Well that's a strange way to go about things. Not above highlighting their involvement when it was up for some awards though i see.

However, she is a businesswoman and selling out a limited run at a theatre already with a built in audience , like the YV, to transferring a show to the west end that isn’t commercial are two very different things.
And.. they didn’t spent lots of money redesigning it for the YV- that version is basically a carbon copy of the US tour.

She has taken commercial risks previously though, possibly none riskier than transferring The Nether to the Duke of York's. There are still rumours, aren't there, that Fun Home *might* still transfer?
