This year has probably been the biggest year for me theatre-wise since getting into theatre. I realised how to make it affordable for myself so have been able to go more often.
Wicked x3 (you can definitely tell it’s my fave) War Horse Six (second visit coming up soon) Twelfth Night (Edinburgh Lyceum/Bristol Old Vic) The Unreturning (outstanding) Dracula (brief but brilliant) Miss Saigon (amazing) Nativity (such a fun show) Kinky Boots (tomorrow night, and most likely several other times while it’s in my hometown)
Out of all of these, I’d say my least favourite was Twelfth Night. I just didn’t find it funny, and the production just felt a bit tired. I liked their concept, it just wasn’t well executed enough.
The best overall production was either Miss Saigon or War Horse. Both ran so smoothly and should be commended, both for the excellent productions and the emotional connection the actors make to their roles.
Wicked still remains my favourite, but after seeing other shows, I realise how flawed it is as a show in terms of book. We’ll see how I enjoy it on my next visit in January.
This year I also realised that 2 of my locals offer £10 standby tickets for under 26s. I will definitely be taking them up on this offer in the new year for shows such as Ghost, Dirty Dancing, Avenue Q and Amelie.

I think, pending seeing a couple more shows in 2018 but now likely rerurn visits, I have seen 10 new plays, 12 new musicals, 2 concerts and 1 dance production. That doesn't include any return visits which I can't really up haha. Best of 2018 would have to be Company and Swan Lake, actually two of the best things I've ever seen so no surprises there. Biggest dissapointment of 2018 would probably be, The King and I, which just makes me angrier the further away we get from it how dissapointed I was. Other highlights include Ruthless, Sheridan Smith and Louise Dearman solo concerts. Memorable night at the theatre would no doubt be 42nd Street's cast change, which was electrifying and just an amazing performance and audience to be a part of.

Quick count, total of 219 attended or still to attend before the end of the year, may add a couple more over Christmas week including a possible trip to Stratford Upon Avon to catch Timon my last Shakespeare play before I achieve ‘Billend’ status.
Another busy year, on initial reflection fewer stand outs than last year, the staging of Becket’s How It Is (Part 1) Print Room at the Coronet having the greatest impact and the venue itself a good addition to my regular haunts.

Interesting thread. this year I have seen less than normal. A knee problem has meant that towards the end of this year I have seen much less than I usually do. Checking my diary seems I have been to 30 shows.
The musical I have seen most this year is 42nd Street with one last viewing of it to come on the last night. Not really disappointed in anything as I tend to only book for things I want to see or have heard good things about. I was pleasantly surprised by Flowers for Mrs Harris as I knew nothing about the musical so it was all new to me. Highlights would be Company, Jason Robert Brown in concert, Jeremy Jordan, Home I'm Darling, Julian Ovenden in concert and Sheridan at the RAH. Loved both Pippin and The Rink at Southwark Playhouse too. Oh and Chess which I saw twice. I suppose the biggest disappointment was not being able to get tickets for West Side Story with John Wilson at the Proms.
2019 is looking to be a good year and I am already looking forward to Follies again, Chita Rivera and Dear Evan Hanson.

(Sorry this is long!) 12 theatre trips, 3 solo concerts. It's been a great theatre year.
I'll start with the biggest disappointment which was The Last Ship. For me the story wasn't very strong and not much of the music was hugely memorable, and the message was a bit too in-your-face. But to be fair there were some brilliant performances and it's great to see something else besides Hairspray or Joseph actually touring!
Surprise of the year theatre-wise was probably how obsessed I became with Sunset Boulevard. I originally booked because it was at the Millennium Centre on my birthday so I thought why not celebrate with something new, I never expected to love it so much though! After one listen to the cast recording I was hooked. I wasn't going to let the March snowstorms stop me from seeing it, and ended up catching it in Wimbledon, so glad I did. I really hope we get to see another production sometime soon, it's just glorious. And of course listening to the recording is what properly introduced me to the divine Ms LuPone which brings me on to the theatre highlight of the year, of course Company!
Company was spectacular, incredible performances across the board, brilliant sets, Marianne Elliot is just a visionary! I'll definitely be back once again before it closes.
Another surprise was Amy Ross as Elphaba, and the whole company of the Wicked tour. One of my favourite Wicked experiences was getting to see it from Row H at the Bristol Hippodrome on a last-minute discount ticket and I enjoyed it in Cardiff too, ableit from further back. Amy really is a class-act, and her portrayl of Elphaba affected me more than any other before. I'm now ready for another break from Wicked for a while, unless they announce some stellar casting for London next year (I think there's more chance of seeing Patti and the Lord out for cocktails than that happening though).
Heathers was also a bit of a saga, I missed out on the cheap tickets for The Other Palace so decided not to bother but also seriously regretted it so I was very happy when they announced the West End run. I had so much fun seeing it at the Haymarket, I think seeing Heathers at age seventeen is always going to be special. Again I really hope we see more of Heathers next year.
Other London shows include The Book of Mormon, finally getting to see Marisha Wallace in Dreamgirls (she did not disappoint!) and my first trip to the Open Air Theatre for Little Shop of Horrors. Not only was it a great production, but it was also an overall lovely summer's day spent in Regent's Park, what a gem of a place.
Saw Evita and was satisfied that Lucy O'Byrne sung A New Argentina as it actually should be, touring Matilda for £5 from the circle (!), plus a goodbye for now to Miss Saigon in Bristol.
Saw Eva Noblezada's cabaret at Live at Zedel and Sheridan Smith who was delightful, funny, warm and in fine voice. The best concert has to be Lea Michele and Darren Criss on Friday though, Lea has one of the best voices I've ever heard and the Gleek in me was very very happy on Friday night.
Looking forward next year to my new obsession Waitress, Come From Away with Queen Tucker, Lea Salonga in Concert, Kinky Boots on tour and much much more!

I only started getting into theatre in September so I haven’t seen too many shows, but I’ve loved most the ones I have seen.
This is going to be an unpopular answer here, but my biggest disappointment was Company. It was by no means bad at all, and I did still enjoy it. I think I may have just had too high expectations based on the reviews I read about it on here. Not to mention I’m a man in his early 20s, so I probably wasn’t the most likely person to feel emotionally attached or related to the storyline. It was still worth seeing alone for Patti LuPone & Not Getting Married Today.
The best thing I saw this year was The Inheritance. It was genuinely moving & mesmerising. I didn’t know theatre could affect me so much, but it’s stuck with me ever since I saw it.
The most fun i’ve had in the theatre has definitely got to be Bat Out Of Hell. I’ve seen it a few times now & it’s just such a wild ride, & the performances from all the cast are wonderful- such incredible voices. Heathers, despite all the issues with fans, was really enjoyable well.

I've clocked up 75 theatre visits this year, which is probably a record for me.
My highlights have been: Summer & Smoke, Almeida Caroline, or Change, Hampstead The Wolves, Theatre Royal Stratford East John, Dorfman A View from the Bridge, Tobacco Factory
Lowlights would be: Hamlet, Globe Girls & Boys, Royal Court Nightfall, Bridge
All round, it's been a good, but not great, year at the theatre for me.

For me it was the most extraordinary year in London ever. Normally I come over 3-4 times a year for a long weekend and always see different shows. This year it were 8 trips in total (well 7 and one still coming up). Normally I see new stuff on every trip and rarely ever manage a return visit to a show I liked, this time I saw Bat out of Hell 9 times (well 7, and 2 still coming up), including the mad dash to and fro just for Andrew Polec's final performance.
Regrets? Zero.
Also caught several other terrific shows like Eugenius, Jamie, 42nd Street and most recently Company, and I got to hang out with some lovely people from the forum here.
Not sure what next year will be like, but my bank account will certainly appreciate a return to normal.

A bit early for this thread, isn't it? Still have my annual New Year's trip to London coming, where I'll be seeing another five shows.
But anyway: This year continued the trend of seeing less and less theatre. By the end of the year, I will have been to the theatre 28 times (2017: 39, 2016: 70 and a maximum of 107 in 2014). Somehow, producers and I seem to differ more and more in what a good musical actually is, and I didn't have a go-to show for quite some time now. Even my usual re-visit shows drove me away with some of their casting decisions. And 2019 doesn't look too bright, either, as I'm not looking forward to any of the shows opening in London. So far, I've only booked five shows for 2019, four of which are in the US. Well, maybe I should be travelling to New York more often.
Highlights were Mean Girls and Pretty Woman on Broadway, and lowlights were the recent Rock of Ages tour (I even canceled this weekend's trip to Berlin because I can't stand this production and it ruins the fond memories I have of this show) and Heathers.

Only starting now so people can take their time to think about it, and also because I know a fair few of us have now had our final "new" shows of 2018.

I've seen about 30-35, I think. But I still have 8 shows to see in December (and my itinerary includes Company, The Inheritance and Swan Lake so I can't wait).
The biggest disappointment must be the Scottish play at the NT. I never thought Macbeth could be so dull! Only God knows how many times I yawned. Biggest surprise: Jean Paul Gaultier's Fashion Freak Show in Paris. I had nothing to do on a lonely weekend and booked a ticket, and had great fun. Very enjoyable dance show, with some incredible and truly moving performances (if Gregoire Malandain reads this by any chance - I want to marry you). Another nice surprise was a really lovely post-show Q&A with Alfred Molina and Alfred Enoch when I saw Red. It was a delight to listen to their thoughtful, nuanced replies.
My personal top 3: Fun Home, Sea Wall (the award for the best individual performance goes to...) and A Monster Calls. A Monster Calls was actually one of the most profound and beautiful, and definitely the most catharctic theatrical experience in my entire life. I cried buckets. I remember walking back from the Old Vic to my hotel in Holborn with tears still rolling down my face. This was definitely the best show of 2018 for me. Also the Monster himself, or actually Stuart Goodwin gets the Hug of the Year award from me, for being wonderfully kind and compassionate to all the poor souls at the stage door (and for almost crushing my ribs).

I still have six or seven shows to see before the end of the year, so I'm holding off until 2018 is done and dusted.
6% of the year is plenty of time to be newly surprised, amused and thrilled.

I've been to the theatre a total of 147 times so far this year, with another 2 potentially 3 trips to go. Seen a total of 44 shows (36 musicals, 8 plays) with 37 of those being new shows for me. My most seen show from this year is Kinky Boots with a rather excessive 75 trips this year. Mamma Mia (7), Six (2), Heathers (3), BOOH (2), Jamie (2), Hamilton (2), 42nd Street (3) and Wicked (14) were the only other shows I made repeat visits to. Majority of those Wicked trips were to the tour, after seeing the tour cast I don't have much desire to go and see the show in London currently. My favourites have been Kinky Boots, The Ferryman and 42nd Street, with the ones I didn't enjoy so much being Sunset Boulevard, Translations and Julie. Strictly Ballroom was the biggest disappointment for me, I'd built it up and when I finally saw it at the Piccadilly it just didn't quite hit the mark for me. I didn't hate it but I certainly didn't love it like I thought I would.
Don't plan on making quite so many trips in 2019, plan to spend my time and money more wisely and see a bigger variety of shows, making less repeat visits but I don't regret how this year has turned out.

This was a quite year for me for shows so I'm determined to see more shows next year1 In total i saw 7 shows, all of which were in London. I do see one touring show (Six) before Christmas which will take my total to 8. Best show out of what I saw was Bat Out of Hell for sure. I gone down to London specifically to see it and re-booked to see it two nights later because I had loved it so much! The King and I was also a special show to see and Heathers was also great. No disappointments this year!

Highlights probably Julius Caesar & Company - but 2018 definitely lacklustre compared to last year. Haven't seen anything as good this year as 2017's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, The Goat or Who is Sylvia, Angels in America, Hello Dolly!, Follies, Hamilton or Network.
Nonetheless, onwards to 2019, which seems like a bumper Spring that's right up my street with the return of Follies plus Pinter 7, Betrayal, When We Have Sufficiently Tortured Each Other, All My Sons, All About Eve & Death of a Salesman.

My personal performance highlight this year, without a doubt, was seeing Jeremy Jordan in concert at Cadogan Hall.
After missing his Hippodrome concert last time he was here I was determined and was in the 2nd row.

I'm unlikely to see any more theatre this year, so I suppose I can do a top ten now.
10 - Romantics Anonymous, Sam Wanamaker Playhouse
9 - Sylvia, Old Vic
8 - The Lehman Trilogy, National Theatre (Lyttelton)
7 - Twelfth Night, Young Vic
6 - Company, Gielgud Theatre
5 - Caroline, or Change, Hampstead Theatre
4 - Fun Home, Young Vic
3 - Hamilton, Victoria Palace
2 - The Inheritance, Young Vic
1 - My Name is Lucy Barton, Bridge Theatre
Special mention for the last performance of Follies at the National in January - an extraordinary evening, but the production isn't in THIS year's top ten because I saw it twice in 2017 (and will be seeing it at least twice in 2019, so it might be back on next year's list.)
Hall of shame: A Very Very Very Dark Matter, Bridge Theatre

Love this thread! Can't wait to sit down and tot up what I've seen, what I've loved and what I've loathed! I was just thinking I wonder how many shows you have seen this year? I’m going to guess that Six is going to be the most seen show this year. For some reason I don’t think you have seen wicked as much this year as in previous years but I could be wrong.

27 musicals and 20 plays attended thus far, with another 8 shows in the pipeline before the year runs out. However, only 2 of these were beyond London so I'm planning on branching out and catching some of the tours next year.
Quite a number of surprises for me in 2018, such as Dust, A Monster Calls, Six, and The Jungle, but my favourite by far has to be The Inheritance. Having seen both parts twice each, I was worried my second viewings would be dampened by the running time and my knowledge of the show, but I was just as enraptured as the first. Toby, the end of Act 1, Walter's monologue that had me entranced at every word and bookended by the falling of the cherry tree leaves... A third visit mightn't be out of the question.
I was too busy to see Sylvia so I'm looking forward to its return. However, my biggest regret was missing out on The Grinning Man earlier this year. I'm constantly reminded of it every time I walk past the painting at Trafalgar Studios.
