The Dominion is likely or possibly the Phoenix if they can downsize the set?

Confirmed back at the Dominion Theatre for a 5 month run next year, 2 June -28 October.
Would have liked to see a big new show there but I guess the money men have done their sums and concluded this will do viable business again. Attendances did seem to grow this year.

I’d imagine Elf back again next Christmas too then, and then hopefully a big new shiny production of something in 2024.

Louise (she of Eternal fame) is playing teen angel for 8 weeks from June at the Dominion While I’m all for mixing stuff up. Teen Angel played by a woman doesn’t work IMO. . The part is supposed to be a 50s dreamy heartthrob straight from the posters of a ‘typical’ teenage Bobby soxer from the 50s. It’s supposed to be cheese to the Max. Can’t see Redknapp pulling this off.

On the two occasions that I’ve seen her in traditional female roles she didn’t pull those off either, so it probably makes no difference. Is Louise Redknapp deemed to be “stunt casting” these days then?

Is Louise Redknapp deemed to be “stunt casting” these days then? The whole fun of it is seeing which ex-heart throb they dredge up for this role. When was she ever deemed this? It seems changing things up for change sake. If they need to go younger than Andre or Donovan surely it’s time to start calling on ex Steps/Blue/S Club before we resort to this.

Does that not work? Exactly, Louise was a massive sex symbol during her Eternal and solo days. Naked was a huge hit, alongside her first albums. Also pretty sure she did the lads mags of the time too. As much as I liked her I wouldn't pay out to see her in this personally, but then I don't know why people would want to pay too see Peter Andre either. She is certainly no worse than who has gone before her.

Does anyone know approximately how many performances this did last year at the Dominion? The Whatsonstage article says it was seen by 500,000 people which I find a bit hard to believe!

Yeah that’s not correct. Around 200 or so I believe. I know the Dominion is big but the upper circle was closed and there were lots of empty seats in stalls and circle often. No way it played to 500,000 people.

Does that not work? Well as Frenchy is female and has a boyfriend Doody in the show she probs not gonna be drooling over Redknapp. Unless she has a back story we’re not privy to? 🤔

The idea of a teenage girl thinking that a 50-something year old man is a hottie has always felt a bit icky and strange to me. I welcome a move away from that type of casting lol!

The idea of a teen boy lusting after 50 year old Louise isn’t great either.

Fair point about the ‘teen Angel’ Never looked at it that way. Pre Elvis etc A lot of the 50s ‘pin ups’ looked older in dress and hair but obv not 50 😂 I guess with PA and JD and co they’re trying to cover all bases and drag us oldies in with some nostalgia.

It’s a shame. Used to love Grease but it’s become one of ‘those’ shows Synonymous with drunk hens who talk and singalong. And the ushers don’t do anything. Nothing would induce me to visit.

And Louise is just bizarre casting. Cannot see her creating a box office stampede 🤣

The good thing is is that she’s not doing Mondays, so I’m sure the understudy will be male if one wants to see a cis gendered man in the part

He's also being really quite horrible, which she ignores because he's such a heartthrob, and just gazes dreamy-eyed at him. I worry Louise could seem more like her mum telling her off! (I did like her on Strictly though.)

I love Louise as Louise and I was part of that 90s fan base but she's never felt a natural fit for a theatre performer. I didn't see her in 9-5 or Cabaret (people I know weren't blown away) but I did see her in Fatal Attraction and she didn't look comfortable.
