Do we have any idea when the filmed version will be released? I think I am right in saying that Tom Lister said in his speech last Saturday something along the lines of cinema release and then DVD later on 2019.

I love Ashley Day, he's amazing, but I'm so glad Philip Bertioli's hard work has paid off and he gets the chance to be in the filmed version. He is such a talent and went on so, so much and was consistantly amazing everytime. So happy.

Every time I went it was always Stuart or Ashley so it will be interesting to see the film with him in it. He was always one of the cast I used to home in on as he was such a great dancer and also very easy on the eye. Didn't realise either that he was also in Funny Girl as Nicky Arnstein until I was reading his bio.

We've probably discussed this before (didn't want to trail back through 268 pages!) but in the interest of keeping the thread going - why was this show so special? For me it was because the first time I saw it was like a happy dream - someone had taken all the very best bits of the old musicals and put them on a huge stage. It was such an explosion of light and colour and the dancing was amazing. I also couldn't believe the slickness, the stage was empty, full, empty, full as if by magic. My cheeks were hurting by the interval because I was smiling so much. One of my best nights ever in the theatre so I just couldn't resist going back. For me, initially, it was because I had seen the show in the 1980s also at Drury Lane with Catherine Zeta Jones and Frankie Vaughan. I was working overseas at the time and everytime myself and best friend came back to London for meetings we would go and see it. We were both young then and just thought it was very OTT and camp. My friend died a few years ago so thought I would go and see it to bring back some happy memories which it did. But I got one of those front row £15 seats for early preview and was totally hooked from then on. I have always loved tap and big dance numbers so this was a perfect show. Plus the spectacle of it, with that huge cast and orchestra there was nothing like it on the London stage. It made me very happy and I always came out in a far better mood that in went in with. For 2 and a half hours you can just immerse yourself in another world. All those amazing costumes and colours. Of course, the highlight was the staircase number and I could literally watch that on a loop over and over again as it gave me goosebumps everytime even though I knew what was coming. I don't think another show will every have the same effect on me.

I do feel bad for Ashley that he didn't get to be in it especially since they filmed "An American in Paris" without him (which made sense) but then to not be in this too must have been hard for him. However I am extremely happy that it was Philip that got to play Billy when it was filmed since he was definitely my favourite Billy and the one I saw most out of the 5 I saw.

Why wasn't Ashley in it when it was filmed? Was he sick at the time? They filmed over a week during the day and during performances and Ashley was sick for the first three days of that week. Unfortunately for him, in those first few days they had filmed the close up shots of We're in the Money and a couple other Billy-heavy scenes during the day so they asked Ashley to have the remainder of the week off and have Philip stand in for the recording.

I believe he was sick. I have seen Phillip a couple of times and think he's fab but I am a little disappointed that it won't be Ashley on the film. I am utterly shallow, but I can barely take my eyes off Ashley when he's on stage.

You can just tell the level of love for this production, cast and show based on last Saturday, even on here. Five of the big shows closing within a week of eachother, none of them have had the level of love on their final day on this board quite like this one!

and the fact that they seemed a warm, generous company loving what they did, and loving their audiences as well. I still felt the design did not quite gel with an overall design language. I've said, I would have liked a difference between backstage and their 'real life' in the depression and the opulence of Pretty Lady on stage. I found the spartan stylings of some of the scenes compared to the solid sets such as the nightclubs at odds with each other. It might have been fun to have played with monochrome and colour more. a minor grumble - it just felt like spectacular sets from different productions. Look at the design coherence of Company with every shape and every colour considered. 42nd street had everything thrown at it.

I wonder what the stair dance finale would have been like if Dorothy hadn’t been injured....

We've probably discussed this before (didn't want to trail back through 268 pages!) but in the interest of keeping the thread going - why was this show so special? . I wasn’t interested in this show initially, I had seen the original UK tour in 1990 / 1 and wasn’t that impressed so I am grateful to all those early posters who raved about this, prompting me to book a ticket. For me it was special because: 1) it looked so incredible;those set piece dance routines just got bigger and better, and it was such a thrill to see that huge cast. Add to that the incredible costumes and lighting and it was stupendous. 2) it sounded brilliant, the singing and the orchestra were all faultless. 3) the cast were stunning. 4) All performers on that stage made it look like being in that show was the most joyous and fun thing you could possibly do. No mean feat given the physical challenges it must have presented. That joy was totally infectious and I left every time feeling like I was walking on air. Theatre can be challenging and thought provoking but sometimes it can just be fun too, and this to me was pure joy and fun from start to finish.

So interesting some of us picked up on the smallest of things but never mentioned it until now. 😂 Well, we have to keep the spirit alive! We were all an observant lot! I am pretty sure it was a height thing as well. OMG I can not believe it has been a whole week already :-(

I read somewhere on here that a member had received an e-mail from his Broadway HD subscription saying it was coming soon. So I guess it will go out streaming on Broadway HD first then hopefully Cinema and DVD - Oh I Can't wait. After Michael Linnit saw our reaction last week, he would be lynched if it never came out on DVD! I agree with you re Philip. He is lovely and so talented. I would love to know the politics why they never gave it to him after cast change! I am sure there politics involved somewhere along the line!

I think I am right in saying that Tom Lister said in his speech last Saturday something along the lines of cinema release and then DVD later on 2019. He didn't say much. It was along the lines of "you have the film to look forward to next year". By "next year" I'm hoping that he'd just forgotten it was the start of January 2019 and he just meant "this year". Broadway HD also sent an email around at the end of 2018 where they said this would start streaming soon. They were quick with the release of The King and I, so we could get 42nd Street anytime now.
