Has the casting of Lulu resulted in a huge upsurge in ticket sales?

Thursday was good as usual. Row A stalls from TodayTix (on the aisle).
Martin McCarthy was on as Andy Lee (not shown on the cast board) and was really good in the role. The rest of the cast was the regulars.
The first time for a while they’ve had a full quota of female cast members for Shuffle. Only other note was a near trip by Eddie Myles, but he recovered with a smile on his face.
Heard one of the other audience saying there was loads of the regulars in (in the audience), so it’s a show that has a following.

Bit of advice needed - was going to try the TodayTix app this morning for the matinee for me and my mother but now unexpectedly have enough time to get to box office for ten. Has anyone had any luck with day seats recently to know what the best option is? App or box office? Can’t afford to pay full price today but want decent seats.

Forgot to say on Thursday there was no gunshot (it was pointed but not fired).
Wonder if it was a miscue, just didn’t fire or if it’s been removed for good (hopefully the latter)?

See you there, also got row B stalls for tonight this morning! I actually moved to row AA (the famous theatre forum seats). Did the backstage tour yesterday and before I left home I noticed that there were still 4 seats in row AA so when I collected the tour tickets in the afternoon I smiled nicely and asked if any chance of being moved for row AA. Was told that the list from Today Tix don't get passed to them until an hour before show and to ask then but there was no guarantee. By the way loved the tour and really recommend it. Anyway collected ticket at 7pm and same guy on box office and, bless him, he moved me so top marks to the staff as they really didn't need to do it. Show as good as ever, everyone on except understudy for Andy who was great. Staircase nearly had me jumping up and cheering at the end as usual but I forced myself to stay seated. Now a question. Have some of the boys changed already? There were 3 or 4 who I didn't recognise from my previous visits. Looking forward to seeing it in a couple of weeks time with Lulu. Will she be able to hit the high notes I wonder, but she can certainly belt out a song. Elderly man sat next to me who only clapped when Sheena Easton sang and even at curtain call he only clapped for Sheena. Very odd but sounded as if he was a regular there as someone came to talk to him at the end, and they were talking about how many times they had been this week. Seems they had both been every night this week.

Think I could pick out the same regulars as you. They were also chatting to the conductor on Thursday. Thanks for the tour recommendation. Have just found the website for them and will definitely book.

No idea but I saw a picture on instagram of the staircase number from last night and that had 13 male ensemble in it, which is obviously more than usual. The only time I've seen 13 guys on is when the girls numbers are really low. Since Martin was on as Andy that leaves just 14 possibly ensemble to be those 13 people. I think I spotted both Josh and Zac in the photo but the swings seem to hardly ever have shows off. To put a male ensemble member in that hasn't started yet seems odd if it was a lack of girls you'd have thought they'd have put on a new girl?

To put a male ensemble member in that hasn't started yet seems odd if it was a lack of girls you'd have thought they'd have put on a new girl? It didn't look like a lack of girls last night- in fact it seemed to me that there were fewer guys than usual! I enjoyed the show, but it pains me to say that I didn't think it was as good as before. Maybe it was just where I was sitting, but the sound balance was dreadful and a lot of the principals' mics were far too low. A lot of the dialogue seemed rushed or clipped and overall the scenes themselves lacked the spark they used to have. A lot of the humour was lost as a result. I also wasn't overly impressed by understudy Andy - I think if his mix had been turned up and he stopped rushing he would have come across better, but I could barely hear him sing. I think the understudy was on for Annie as well (didn't check the cast board but it didn't seem to be the same lady as previously) Again I thought she wasn't great at first, but she was much better in Act 2. Her mic needed turning up as well though. The dance numbers were still fabulous though, and Clare Halse is an absolute star. The show would be a lot poorer without her so I'm glad she's staying!

Its got the staircase pic, then click through to another picture and two short videos. I think the pictures are production pictures. A bit difficult to tell as the accompanying text isn't in English, but they look staged and they're taken from different places in the theatre. The first video clip is the male ensemble bowing (very short). Looks more likely shot last night with 10 ensemble, same as Thursday. I think it's the same male ensemble, but the clip's a bit blurry. I remember Greg Bernstein wasn't on Thursday if that helps.

Fantastic show again this afternoon, this show is such a tonic. Can’t fail to come out a little happier than you were going in! Clare Halse just keeps getting better.
Although, we were trying to work out what possible plot “Pretty Lady” could have based on a the show scenes!

Anyone going next sat night ? Yes me! I'll be sitting in AA12. Please say hello if you're somewhere near me. Just couldn't miss Stuart and Norman's last night even though it means a 200 mile journey and overnight stay. It'll be my eighth time seeing this wonderful cast and then I'll be back down for the matinee on the 21st to see the newbies.

Although, we were trying to work out what possible plot “Pretty Lady” could have based on a the show scenes! I may be talking rubbish (I often do) but I have the impression that 'Pretty Lady' was a kind of hybrid show that was partly a book musical and partly a revue that developed from the American burlesque and vaudeville traditions. Judging from scenes in the movie 'The Jolson Story', shows like 'Sinbad' (1918) and 'Bombo' (1921) had a story line involving characters and situations but were also opportunities for Jolson to sing additional new songs that he could interpolate ad lib and the show could also include elaborately staged ensemble musical numbers like 'The Spaniard that blighted my life' which Jolson lifted without permission from the British music hall star Billy Merson and performed in the revue 'The Honeymoon Express' in 1913, apparently in a Spanish scene if 'The Jolson Story' can be believed. If I have got the right slant on all this then it is anybody's guess exactly what 'Pretty Lady' was about, except that it obviously had a flimsy story about a pair of young people in love with each other and featured a lot of 'young and beautiful dames' in elaborately staged ensemble numbers with a lot of dancing that bore little or no relationship to the central storyline – and the punters were entirely happy with shows like that if the singing and dancing were of a high standard. You might even say that '42nd Street' itself is actually a good example of such a show!

A very interesting post. We are going in April but I've booked the cheapest seats up in the gods. I was also thinking of doing the tour beforehand and might chance my hand asking if there is any chance of changing to better seats. We're going on Tuesday so it probably won't be full.

Yep, I've worried about trying to make sense of the plot of Pretty lady since I saw the 1933 film......such trivia never worried Busby B. Mind you the plot of the play within the play of Hamlet and The dream are pretty incoherent. And let's not get started on 'Nothing On' - the play within Noises Off, which seems to be a very short one act play. Plays within plays and musicals within musicals must form a whole Christmas quiz or a Mastermind round.
