Lulu bows out tonight. I'm sad to see her go but I am definately in the minority so congratulations to all those who hated her in the show.

For those curious, Emma just replied to my tweet about her costume, she is a Swing for the Staircase/Finale when they run out of Swings!

I'm sad Lulu has gone too, I saw Steph on one of her scheduled days and I by far prefered Lulu to her (I don't think many people will have that opinion seeing as so many people moaned about Lulu). I thought Lulu was fun and just right for Dorothy. I will really miss her next time I see the show, I don't think I'll ever enjoy "Quarter to Nine" as much again.
Makes sense that Emma is a staircase swing, I've definitely seeing her covering one of the male ensemble before.

I saw the matinee yesterday - my first visit since Lulu joined the cast - and I’m squarely in the minority that enjoyed her performance. It wasn’t as pure vocally as Sheena, but her voice has its own qualities and I liked her characterisation. I can’t honestly say I preferred one over the other, they were different and I enjoyed both. And I look forward to seeing what Steph brings to the role on my next visit. Sat in A23 - first time that side after a couple of A1 visits - loved the view from there too. May just have to see it again from there... I also did the theatre tour in the morning, which was really interesting - great to see the stage lit with the Pride rainbow and to hear Lulu’s hits belting out of the speakers as they tested the sound system, and to see the under-stage machinery. They wouldn’t be drawn on exactly when the theatre is due to close for its refurb, saying that 42nd Street keeps extending so who knew!

I actually think what 42nd Street has done in that huge theatre is kinda amazing. To start as a limited run and then have the team who run the theatre continuously pushing back thw refurb so they can extend the show, its lovely to see producers having faith in their work and a theatre support that. It's funny how earlier last year of the two big dance shows I woulda thought American in Paris would of lasted longer, but I'm thrilled to see this still up and running with no end date set as of yet.

I wonder how desperate/urgent the refurb is. If 42nd Street continues to perform well and make a lot of money for everyone involved, and RUG decide they do want Frozen in there, would they be willing to put back the refurb in order to maximise revenues from 42nd St. but also not miss out on the money printing machine that Frozen is inevitably going to be.

I'm thrilled to see I'm not the only person who goes back so regularly too. I've just seen someone on twitter say they have seen the show over 70 times so far, and they know someone who has seen it way more than that!

Depends on the timescale, if Disney wants Frozen for May or June 2020 then they’d want the theatre to be ready by early May, I can’t imagine RUG wants a Hamilton situation so I imagine the latest 42nd Street could stay open is March or April next year, ideally they’d close it in January or February so they have wiggle room.

I really think we will see it close end of March next year, full two year run.

Now that Lulu has left (which is a shame) and Steph has taken over, has a new standby been announced for Maggie/Dorothy?

Steph is only doing 8 weeks so I don’t think they’ll get a standby in. She may return to standby when the new person comes in..but then it’s a bit of a kick in the teeth so she probably won’t.

*cue the Jaws theme*
Lulu's offical twitter posted picture from the Pride/Farewell warm up with the caption: "just a few of the gang at at yesterdays Gay Pride warm up and Lulu's goodbye (for now)".
So either this is meant as she will see them in the future socially etc OR a million fans worst fears are realised and they will bring her back soon!

Bye Lulu!! And GOOD RIDDANCE. Her self redesigned costumes and shocking vocals were painful to witness. She killed the show stone dead. I pray she doesn’t return.
Is no one going to be announced as the new Dorothy?
It’s got Jane McDonald all over it hahahahaha

Where's the 8 weeks come from? I'd not seen that online before, but maybe I missed something. Looking forward to seeing who Dorothy will be after that and I'd have no problem with the suggestion that danieljohnson14 has given!

Thanks, hadn't realised Steph was only in for eight weeks.
Probably just to reward Steph for saving Mamma Mia and give Lulu a break then (or allow her to attend pre-existing commitments).

To pretty much confirm the 8 weeks, I have seen Steph say on Instagram she is excited to play the role for the whole Summer, which would be pretty much 8 weeks. Now I'm expecting Lulu to return, which is be thrilled about. But Tracie Bennett is dream casting and, if anything to please @ryan after several conversations over a glass of wine as to why she'd be perfect, let's get Jane McDonald in there for at least a limited run.

CJ Johnson returns as Standby Dorothy Brock/Maggie Jones for this limited run. Surprising considering I heard the reason she left in the first place was because she was unhappy with how she was treated as a Standby compared to Sheena.
For the first time since the show began, Dorothy has been bumped down to fourth billing on the website, with Tom, Clare and Ashley all billed before Steph. Before now, she has always been too billing, ahead of Tom.

I’d definitely go see this if Ria Jones reprised her role from the Paris production, I’d also love to see Elaine Paige do it but I remember someone saying upthread that she most likely wouldn’t want to.

I'll be taking my mum for her first trip in the autumn. I know she'll love it anyway but her night would be made if it was Jane Macdonald !

What is Steph's last day?
I've booked but may end up missing her.

What is Steph's last day? I've booked but may end up missing her. I'm not 100% but if it is 8 weeks like people are suggesting then it would be the 1st of September. I didn't realise she was only doing a short stint, looks like I'm going to be heading back sooner than I first thought, I'd rather like to catch her in the role
