Isn’t the refurb taking 18 months, it’s more likely the theatre will reopen in September or October 2019 if it’s closing in March

If it's due to take 18 months and the show closes early next year it would be 2020 before it reopens. which would also give them time to see if Frozen has legs. Although the box office is strong at the moment reviews and word of mouth are mixed and the resale market isn't a strong as people expected which indicates demand is not as high

I believe the latest firm rumour was for an early 2019 closure and a summer 2020 reopening. This was a whole ago though so wouldn't surprise me if it's changed.

Now here's a funny thing! Today's Telegraph is offering seats for 42nd Street.....starring Sheena Easton!
I just hope the rest of the reporting in the newspaper is more up-to-date!

Hallo, my movie I go to when things are somewhat blue is Ken Russell's The Boyfriend, which has much in common with 42nd Street, even sharing lines directly from the film, and plot references. For those of you who don't know the film it features a seaside theatre company in the 20's bravely putting on the musical The Boyfriend, also set in the 20's whilst a visiting Hollywood director watches it, imagining it as a Busby Berkeley style lavish film. Along the way the cast also have various fantasy moments, seeing the situation as a greek Bacchanalian romp and such. Layers upon layers and backstage story upon backstage story, and it is blessed with a great cast, stunning performances and glorious choreography. I love it, and just have to overlook that the Boyfriend was written in the 50's as a homage to the 20's and what the director is imagining is way, way ahead of its time. Even talking of Ruby Keeler as in the past. Very confused time line going on but it is a glorious film, with a who's who of musical and ballet and acting talent. There's even our Glenda in it.

Finally got back to this for a third viewing. Blew me away as always. Arrived just after 1130 and got c1 and c2 as dayseats. Good to see the show from a different angle. Only downside was the chatterers and.rustlers immediately behind us in act 2. Seats that hadn't been occupied in act 1

Hi, I’m looking to book this for September and there’s good seats in both stalls and circle - would people recommend being in the circle to see the full stage and choreography in row A or B, rather than being row D or E in the stalls? I’m usually a stalls person as I like to be close, but wondering if this is better from above?!

That said, it's a low stage so even the front stalls won't miss anything!

Definitely the circle, especially if you're not particularly tall - the rake in the front stalls is pretty poor and the stage seems fairly high for a short person in the front few rows even though it probably isn't really!

The stage isn't high. I've always been in either AA or A of the stalls and I'm a right shortass. Perfect view. However I agreen that dress would give you the best overall view of the spectacle

Same issue with lack of rake also applies further back in the stalls. Row AA is different because there's no-one in front, but it does make getting an overall view of the spectacle more difficult than the circle.

Centre of row E of the stalls is my personal favourite, had seats there for my last 3 visits, and booked centre row F for my next. Am tempted by front row for the time after that though.

Does anyone know why the sound is so bad in this show - at every performance?. It’s been running for around 15 months now so there’s no excuse. Again tonight Billy was practically inaudible- especially in dames - and most of the cast just needed the whole thing ‘turning up’. In ‘Sunny Side To Every Sutuation’ it Was so low at one point you could actually hear it being turned up at one point when the mixer desk realised, so much so that the conductor turned around and and glared at the desk a couple of times. It really is very poor, the producers should take them to task. We were front stalls, goodness only knows if anyone hears anything in the circles???l.0

Front row is fabulous, I was wary but it's great to be so close, you still see feet etc etc. I would return in a flash to the front.

Ooo thats interedting, just seen a picture on Instagram of one of the performances this weeks curtian call, it looks like it was a cut show as whoever was playing Annie at this performance (can't quite tell if it was Emma or not), they are in the same outfit as the Ensemble rather than her own feather boa look, so whoever it was presumably had to do do the Finale number following and possibly the staircase number too?

Just to say that not only do I have a ticket for 42nd Street in Stalls A0 on Saturday evening 20 October 2018, the end of the current booking period, but I also have one for Stalls A23 on Saturday evening 1 December 2018m which was from a booking extension available for a short while in January 2018. As both of these date were announced by the RUG as closing dates for the show I will be a far from happy bunny if the actual closing date turns out to be something else, which is looking like a distinct possibility right now! I too have tickets for both those shows - the 1 December close always seemed an odd choice, mind. Why shut just before Christmas rather than just after? I’m also back next Saturday so will just catch Lulu before Steph takes over... ho hum. PS Late reply, been away, and am sure the conversation has moved on in the several pages of posts beyond the one above - sorry!

Is is just me, or does anyone else wish they'd leave that curtain suspended for 30 seconds longer at the start? Yes I agree I think it should stay suspended a bit longer! I managed to get down last weekend after my disastrous attempt the week before. I thought I'd try my chance with a day seat and was really pleased to get a ticket for £15 - it's not often I get change from my theatre tokens nowadays! (And on a nice little card as well.) I was given D32 but moved to D33 as even though it was further over I found I got a better view as row D sticks out beyond row C so there wasn't exactly anyone in front of me. I agree with the earlier post that the rake in the stalls is bad, but I had an excellent view of the left side of the stage (apart from the back corner that was out of my eye line) and as I wanted to focus on the tapping, I thought it was excellent. I was pleased to see Steph on as Dorothy as I thought she was fantastic - I chatted to her after the show and she was lovely, and she told me about going to play Donna in Mamma Mia part way through the show, I think she deserves a medal for that! I thought the show was brilliant and enjoyed it as much as my first visit in March. I seemed to see a different Peggy to last time, but after reading the cast list on both occasions I thought I was seeing the main cast, so I'll have to go and peruse the cast list to get my head around who I saw - both girls were excellent though. My favourite parts of the show are Go Into Your Dance, Lullaby of Broadway and 42nd Street. I liked the chance to pose with the chorus line photo outside the theatre - I can at least pretend I'm in this show!

Report from last night from centre of the second row. Great show, all of the main cast were on, with the exception of Philip Bertioli as Pat Denning. Lulu was in fine voice in her final week. Really playing up the comedy and even added a few of the high notes she doesn't normally sing. A well-deserved standing ovation at the end. The leads excellent as always, of course, especially Clare Halse and Ashley Day. They were a few ensemble down last night. Only 11 male ensemble, so Freddie Clements was on as the Thief. And Emma Caffrey was indeed on as Annie and indeed in the Ensemble outfit for the bows at the end, which looked rather odd. I didn't pick her out specifically during the final numbers, but presume she did the staircase number.

Question for anyone who has been recently. I know when Lulu joined the programmes were updated but still had the Original Cast production photographs. Has this been changed to photos with the new cast with Lulu or not?
