A complete snooze-fest for me and I thought it would never end. We got the understudy (I think it's really poor not to have announced this if nothing else for the poor guy playing the role) and sadly he was bad; cracking on the top notes and shouting when he should have used his (non existent?) falsetto. His tics and physicality simply annoyed me and I felt nothing for him or in fact anyone on that stage. Given that many of the youngsters have had little professional experience, they've cast it cheaply and it woefully shows. It's been over hyped and now it's over here presumably for a while judging by the reaction last night. We had a false evacuation before Act 2 started and part of me was thrilled to be able to escape but depressed at the thought of having to return to see the entire show again! Marcus is not the understudy he is the alternate... quite a big difference, he was cast as Evan as well as Sam. I agree though they should have advertised it. If you were annoyed at his tics and physicality then you really dont want to see Sam as his are much more severe.

Saw this Tuesday night. Wasn't impressed with Marcus or several other cast members Evans mother for one. As there are only 8 cast in it they really could have cast better. The vocals were poor compared to the US soundtrack. Acting wise it was good but really it seemed quite cheap and basic. Will not be rushing back.

Vocals are always going to he better on the cast recording, its studio produced.

I saw Rebecca McKinnis in ETAJ and thought she was very good. I'm surrpised that she isn't going down well in this production. She seemed a very capable perfromer with a great voice in ETAJ.

Rebecca was fantastic when I saw DEH as indeed she was in Jamie.Played both parts with perfection in my opinion.

I have to say I thought both the mothers were good. And my only problem with Marcus was he has no vocal control in the high notes (yet) and does shout a bit. I like the songs as well, I don't really agree with the 'they're all the same' argument, though they are all of a similar genre, it's a very light rock infused show. Having said all that, I understand what people are saying about it not resonating on an emotional level with them, I wasn't particularly moved at any point although I was more engaged with the story than some were, it seems.

Vocals are always going to he better on the cast recording, its studio produced Yes I realise that but really several of the cast I saw seemed to struggle with the vocals and did not seem to have the ability to portray these songs to the way they are sung on the album. I went expecting to love the show. That wasn't the case, largely due to the casting of several of the 8. A limited cast plays even more importance on getting every one of the 8 right.

Having had another day to stew on it (and stew I have...still not happy) I think our expectations of new musicals might be of scale and excitement and despite the hype, what we have is an excellently small & spacially tight chamber piece.

Marcus is like a younger version of Antoni from Queer Eye in his look, voice and mannerisms

I liked this a lot, Marcus Hardman was on as Evan and he was able to nail the characters' anxiety and tics well, the set design is stunning, I'm not normally a fan of projection on stage but the show uses it really well.

Piece re the show on BBC News at Ten this evening ahead of tomorrow's opening night... (is that normal?) They did something about Hamilton's opening night as well if I recall, and possibly 42nd Street and Come From Away. There is also a piece on their website at the minute about Mary Poppins.

Saw it tonight. Sam in fantastic voice and is very wonderful in the title role -- moving and real and honest. Wish I could say the same about most of the rest of the cast: both the Heidi Hansen and Zoe are tough as nails and wear out their welcomes early on, and Evan's infatuation with Zoe makes zero sense in this iteration. The school shooter gag got a collective and audible wince from the audience, as one might imagine. Will be very curious to see the press response on Weds -- can see it going any which way. Not a full standing o -- many stayed seated and not just the critics.

I think it’ll be reviewed like ‘Rent’ was over here. The gnarlier crits will say it’s mawkish & sentimental (ie too American) for their tastes. That Sam’s portrayal is ‘too’ much to make it enjoyable. The more open minded will revel in Sams talent and call it an important new work. The truth is somewhere in the middle and for the individual to decide. I need to go again.

The Guardian, What’s On Stage and Telegraph reviews are all pretty decent and high praise for Sam Tutty all round. Any others been released? Interested to read some more.

They have great quotes to pull for tube posters and adverts and this will be a great show for the WICKED and SIX kids...

I can already foresee the fan girl tales that we hear on the Six thread being told on here in the next few months. Seeing it on Thursday finally after missing the 3rd preview due to illness - I’m terribly excited now - might even become a fan girl for the first time 😂. I jest.

I like DEH but I'd hate to see it hijacked by annoying fangirls like Wicked and Six.

Strong reviews for an outstanding show...well deserved...yes,the fangirls/boys will hijack it,as it will speak to them about their own lives,I feel...already re-booked for it twice.

Is it really possible for teenagers to hijack a show aimed at them?
