Bit silly of Wilma to publish it without any verification.

Bit silly of Wilma to publish it without any verification. To be fair, 'she' does "apparently" and "although no official casting announcement has yet been made". It's up to the reader to jump to conclusions or not.

I think the lesson here it, you won't be finding out from an Instagram story/post probably the most sought after role in the West End this year.

Evan hasn’t been cast yet. Finals are happening this week. West End Wilma has zero credibility whatsoever, I’m afraid.

I'm reading the last few pages in this thread over again, but what leads you to believe his social media was compromised?

I'm reading the last few pages in this thread over again, but what leads you to believe his social media was compromised? Were there not posts saying that it was a prank gone too far by his friends/classmates? I can't think he'd have been stupid enough to condone it or be involved given the potential impact on his reputation...!

I was assuming the prank was the offer letter - faked by classmates and thought by him to be real?

Offers don’t go out by letter anymore. I don’t think they have done for many years. It comes from a discussion with the producers and the agent of the performer. This is all just one big mess, I can’t help but feel for the boy if it was a prank.

Oh well then he is a complete idiot to be posting about that kind of letter on social media before any official announcement. Any sympathy for him is retracted!

If the letter was believable, he obviously got through several rounds of the Dear Evan Hansen audition process, for what I'm sure will have been a dream role for him. And one that would change his life. I think he can be forgiven for getting carried away with excitement when he received that letter. Especially as no discussion would have taken place about an official announcement etc.
Incidentally, where was the original posted? I only saw West End Wilma's article, which didn't have any link. Was it even him that posted it on his own Twitter?

If anyone should be embarrassed, it should be West End Wilma, for desperately trying to break the news without doing any further research. It was a very flimsy post/letter to go on in the first place.

Isn't the entire premise of the show about a letter gone wrong? Sounds like PR to me. I have no expectations from West End Wilma. It's not exactly journalism with the finest integrity, not that journalism has any integrity nowadays anyway. At least WEW does not pretend to be something it isn't.

I doubt any employer would be impressed by such a leak, so I think it was pretty foolish of him, prank or not.

I would expect that the audition process is covered by an NDA, like reality TV shows are, and I assume that’s because they know they are dealing with amateurs, not professionals with agents.
I keep finding myself thinking about this poor chap. What an awful thing to have happen. Is it confirmed that the sequence of events was that his friends faked the letter, he posted it on social, and that it was picked up by WEW and not fact checked?

Just wanted to point out the element of a faked letter in offstage goings-on regarding DEH. Amazing.

Do we think that he posted on social media in the spirit of "haha, look at this totally genuine letter", like he got that it was a joke and decided to run with it because it amused him so much, rather than that he fell for it and believed he was sharing life-changingly great news with his loved ones?

Does it matter? It obviously wasn’t contextualised enough for the actual meaning/intent to come through, leading to the really awful situation he’s in now.
