You know I was thinking two things about the film; Firstly, I wonder if the cut sings were actually filmed and they then might turn uo as deleted scenes on the DVD/Blu-Ray release? Finally, given that he's moved on to bigger things, now that he's committed the character to film, do we think this will be Ben Platt's last outing as Evan Hansen? In terms of playing the role, yes. But I imagine he will still sing the songs in concert appearances etc. He's unlikely to return to any stage production of the full musical.

I'd hoped to see the film this week but am struggling to find any screenings near me. No sign of it at my two local cinemas, and the Vue 13 miles away only has showings at odd times. Hopefully they're just prioritising other things as it's half term and it might get a better showing the week after.

I saw the film tonight on the one screening they had at my local Odeon. Actually it was busier than a few of the other screenings I'd been to recently.
Well, it certainly wasn't bad like I thought it would be from the reviews and I actually really enjoyed it. The one major difference between the stage show and the film was the tone - in the stage show even during Evan's opening monologue there is a lot of humour, and there is a lot of humour throughout, whereas the film lacks any of that and damn it brings home just how sad of a story it is.
I can see why Platt is getting a lot of criticism for his performance in this. The "too old" look didn't bother me, actually didn't matter at all. But the way the songs are written and how Platt performs it is is very much for the stage - it's very intense. But then by toning that down you would lose the real essence of the character.
Amy Adams was wonderful
By cutting Anybody Have a Map? and Good for you, Heidi becomes somewhat diminished and Julianne Moore isn't really in it that much. Equally by cutting the Sincerely, Me reprise you lose some much needed comic relief. I didn't actually feel we needed the new number that Alana sang (Anonymous Ones), but the other new number (A Little Closer) made for a really wonderful sequence which wrapped the final chapter up nicely.

I had a choice of cinemas to watch this in although it was only in one screen in each.
I found it very intense and so I think I prefer the stage version as it slighty takes the edge of to be an easier watch.
It is a successful transfer of the stage show to film which is hard to pull off but I can see how it wouldn't appeal to the general audience.
I really don't like "to break in a glove" so I was pleased it wasn't in the show. Because I'm familiar with the stage show and its soundtrack the new songs felt slightly odd as they aren't as familiar to me as the rest which is always a problem with adaptions.
I think if you like the show you will like the film.

Saw the movie last night. Oh dear. What a stupid vanity project. It could have been so great, but I (and many others it seems from the fact it's a box office flop) just can't get over the fact that Platt looks as old as he does. He literally look older than his mum. Some scenes end up just being hilarious because they look so stupid.
I don't understand the argument that they wanted to immortalise Platt in the role - surely it was recorded professionally on Broadway during his run?! Couldn't they have just released that?!

Glad I got here early. The queue is barely moving. Had bag check and covid pass check while in the queue.

Got here about 7:10 and in by 7:12 or so. We were asked about Covid passes but no one checked them. I didn’t have a bag but the searches looked fast. Very impressed really as the queue looked deceptively long.

Programme each on our seats eith a sticker on to mark reopening night too

Possibly the first theatre I've been back to where they were requested every audience member wear a mask on the way in. And covid passes checked for everyone too. Good to see! Of course you do wonder how long it will actually last...

I enjoyed this last night from one of the £5 seats. Great to look across the audience and see the majority of people being respectful and wearing a mask.
The show is what it is. It was performed well although there was a bit of a sound echo at some points (like one speaker was a split second behind another) which was distracting.
The view from where I sat only really gets half the stage (and much with a bar in view), but for a repeat viewing and the price there's nothing to complain about.
A nice touch with the free programme and a "first night" sticker on them.
All of the swings and alternates came out to bow at the end. Then there were flowers for everyone and some short speeches. Lots of cheering and clapping but otherwise a polite audience. A great evening out.

Wow, I didn’t realise they still existed? Are they the extreme ends of the upper, or balcony?

Wow, I didn’t realise they still existed? Are they the extreme ends of the upper, or balcony? The very cheap seats are the ones against the sides of the Upper Circle. They're not all priced the same though. The one the very closest to the stage was more expensive (I think £10 when I booked, but I can't be sure). Looks like they're now £7.50/£15 later in the run. TodayTix are doing Rush now, so that's likely going to be the best value versus view option.

I have a couple booked in December, £12.50 for a bit further towards the main body of the upper circle, but we sat in the £5 seats last time and loved the show after paying a fortune in the opening weeks and being underwhelmed. Loved being that bit closer and can’t wait to see it again.

Does anyone know if they have shared the performer schedule? I was thinking about trying to rush the matinee today but the last time I saw the show, I saw Marcus at the midweek matinee. I would love to see Sam this time around but I am unsure if he would be performing today’s matinee.

Marcus did the matinees pre-covid, so I guess once they’ve settled back into the show, that will be the schedule again.

Was on there right at 10 and all tickets were held. Tried for a few mins and gave up. Went to Prince of Egypt and got one first try so that will be my afternoon entertainment today!

It's Marcus this afternoon, though this is probably too late to be helpful!

Great to be back. I managed to get a rush ticket in the back row of the dress circle which was a really great view. Sam Tutty. Gosh. What a journey he goes on. Words Fail totally broke me tonight - you could hear a pin drop. He’s on top form and giving one of the best performances you’ll see in the West End right now, backed up by a strong cast all around.

I've NEVER managed to get a Rush ticket(s) for a top show at 10am despite numerous attempts. All my successes have been between 10.10 and late afternoon and they have been 90% single seats.

Well for the first time in over 35 years of seeing shows , I finally got up and walked out of something. How this nasty awful musical. Is beloved by anyone is beyond me. The premise is beyond foul, Jebus I hated every single thing about it. Couldn’t make it through Act One and yes I saw the train wreck that was Cyrano The Musical in New York.

I think it's a show that you either 'get' and can relate to, or you don't. It does seem to be very polarising. Sorry it didn't work for you. I love it.

I would suggest leaving the film, if you didn't like the premise of the stage show then the film isn't going to change your mind as it's very faithful to it, other than a few changed songs and a slightly reworked ending.

To be fair, I’m not sure how it could cause such a strong reaction? You must have known the premise before deciding to spend money on a ticket? Its what it is about; not a hidden subplot.
Things I’ve left before the end? Half A Sixpence…just wasn’t for me… Tommy Steele ‘What A Show’…gah! ‘Les Mis’ while Carrie was Eponine in it; left after she’d died…but I’ve never been so offended by something that I left!

I dislike it when people say you either get it or you don't. It implies that people who don't "get" it are too stupid to understand it. I hated this show - partly as the score was rubbish, in my opinion, but mostly because the story, such as it was, was about some guy telling lies to a grieving family and then you are supposed to feel like he deserves redemption at the end? I know some people will disagree with this take and that's fine, I am not going to accuse them of not "getting" my point of view.

I meant 'get it' as in 'relate to it', I wasn't implying anyone who doesn't enjoy the show is stupid. But while the score is obviously open to individual taste, if you think the show is just about 'a guy telling lies' then you did miss the point of it. And apparently a whole song in Act 2 which explains it.

I get that you didn't mean it that way and it is just the phrase of "getting it" generally that annoys me and it wasn't meant as a personal attack so maybe I should have made that clearer. Obviously there is slightly more to the show than the telling lies but it was not that deep so I don't think I missed any point and no song in act 2 explained why I should feel a certain way about characters or justified any of the decisions they made. The show doesn't appeal to me at all and is up there with the worst things I've seen on stage but we all like different things and I'm glad you enjoyed it as did the 2 people I saw the show with.

No that's totally fine, each to their own and all that! I get more out of it the more I watch/listen to it, and Evan's actions can be easily misinterpreted I think, but his outpouring confession of 'Words Fail' in Act 2 does go a long way towards explaining them. But equally I can see why people can't click with it 😁

The film does do a good job of repairing the damage Evan has caused, but I still have issues with the main story.
