Well, I finally saw this on Thursday evening (18th May), whilst it was in Nottingham, after trying to see it at the St. James in December on the day when the matinee was cancelled. I am only just getting a chance to post my thoughts.
Well, it was good, but I wouldn't say it blew my socks off. I've previously seen the film and thought it was ok, but I just don't think that RENT is really my cup of tea.
Yes, it has some great songs, and they are delivered well by the cast. The production was also very good. I just felt a disconnect with the material. I don't think that it is particularly dramatically engaging, and for me sort of just plods along with little sense of where it is going.
I am clearly in the minority though, as the rest of the audience absolutely ate it up.

I am slightly wondering whether it would be a cast recording. Like why would they make a cast recording for a cast of a show that are unlikely to be seen do the show again?

I'm out of the loop, but if it IS a cast recording it is fairly exciting, as the only recordings we have are the original cast and film (which is basically the same cast) not even Rent Remixed got recorded (thank God). From my personal nerdy point of view I'd also find it fascinating if this was the cast that the Larson estate finally agreed to another recording of!

They've done the show justice throughout the run. Whilst we are unlikely to see the cast together again after this week it will make up for it a bit if we have the chance to hear it again |

I'd absolutely love a cast recording too, this cast is just too good not to be documented somehow. (Lucie Jones 😍)
Also I just think we need a new recording, I don't really like the OBCR because I feel the movie soundtrack is more rocky and better sound, and don't get me started on Daphne Rubin-Vega. I mean ewww, I'm guessing she was trying to emphasise that Mimi is 19?? But the problem with the film is it's not complete, bits were obviously left out of the film, this recoding would be.

I can see it being a Made in Dagenham style of just making it download rsther than physical release. As they wouldn't sell as well phyiscally following the tour as they can't shift it at venues!

Surely with Rent Heads global a limited print would work if it's a cast recording!!

Not as good obviously as the songs are live but still good fun. Still bitter that show didn't catch on, the final show especially was amazing |

I can't believe I'm 72 hours away from seeing this live. It really is a dream come true. When are you expecting to get to Tunbridge wells on Tuesday? As I am from Spain, I depend on wifi to get online, so I'll let you know when I'm there when/if I get free wifi somewhere. If not, I'll be by the door wearing jeans and a pink shirt, or seated in F12 (stalls). |

@eldermillan. It was lovely to meet you. Sorry I had to dash off at the end. I will compose my thoughts over the course of my 3 trips this week.
Lucie was off tonight but Christina was brilliant. Wasn't sure about the sound at the start but hopefully being nearer the centre that will be better tomorrow

About the show: WOW WOW WOW!
Fantastic cast! Christina was covering Maureen as Lucie Jones was feeling unwell.
Standouts for me were Layton (daaaaaaamn!), Phillipa and Ryan. But everyone was great.
I really loved it! Wow, I mean, it was incredible. I just have no words right now.
