Hopefully they wont have such issues for the matinee tomorrow. Time will be tight

I know I'm not alone because my friends hate this show too, but are there others on here who think it's a completely overrated cult show?
Couldn't wait to get out of the theatre when I saw this in December.

We're finally going in... due to technical issues Maybe they just wanted to watch Lucie Jones on the telly.

About 6 weeks ago I would have agreed with you but having seen this production twice and another amateur production in Brighton I finally get it.

Interval thoughts:
- sound issues. Vocals are not loud enough and aren't mixed well. Often outpowered by the band or backing vocalists. Others around me were remarking about it too. Mixing was all over the place in La Vie Boheme. If I didn't know the whole score off by heart I wouldn't have understood any of it.
- understudy Maureen is excellent.
- highlight for me is MiMi. Her out tonight was amazing.
- staging is a bit budgety and amateurish but it makes sense for this kind of venue
- Roger seems to be struggling vocally
- interesting that Collins is white. He's doing well though and has a very nice arse
- it's very true to the original. The score seems totally unamended
- it's hard to go wrong with such an amazing piece. Any competently performed version of Rent will still be amazing. I'm not blown away though. I dream that one day we'll get a more polished version thoigh

Which row were you sitting in. I remember someone commenting before on the sound and the problems varying depending on where you were sitting

There were issues with sound right back when I saw it at Theatr Clwyd. Sounds like they've struggled to get it right.

He gave an interview to the local paper in Eastbourne about how much they were looking forward to getting out on tour last week so unless things have changed since then he is on the tour

I went to the performance tonight. It finally started 1HOUR late! Maybe this put me in a bad mood, I'd never seen it before but knew how highly regarded it is by some so had high expectations. Although fairly well performed I absolutely hated it and left at the interval and had a job staying that long.

Just checked the site and we had understudies for:
- Roger - Maureen - Angel - Benjamin
tonight.
Final thoughts:
- Sound issues were still distracting
- Seasons of Love was lovely, really moving. So was I'll Cover You
- I wasn't a fan of the missing electric guitar climax in 'Your Eyes' and replacing it with a dainty piano accompaniment. For me it absolved the scene of its passion.
- Understudy Angel was fantastic, and it's one of the favourite versions of Contact I've seen
- I wonder if this would have worked better in the round. It seemed to lack a bit of energy compared to other productions of Rent I've seen.
- Take me or leave me was amazing - it's just a brilliant show tune and the staging was very effective here. The audience loved it too.
- I noticed quite a few didn't come back after the interval. I wonder if it's because of the 1 hour late start

Id had it built up to me by people before i went and purposely lowered my expectations as I felt sure it wasnt my thing and it blew me away. Was it anything in particular you disliked?

I've never seen it before and trying to lower mine too so I'm quite pleased someone hated it!
An hour late? That's really bad and I would be in a FILTHY mood by the time it started. Surely they should offer refunds to people who have to leave fir transport etc.

Understudies for Benny, Angel and Roger again at the matinee today. Have to say I was quite disappointed by a couple of them. First time I've seen this production. Enjoyed it overall and some of the songs were incredibly well sung. Have to admit there were a few points that felt a bit clumsy, and the sound was terrible at a few points. But overall a fitting tribute to the original production.

Where were you sitting? Not ideal but can imagine it was better more central

Is Lucie Jones leaving now that she's our pick for Eurovision glory? Shame if she does as I loved her 'Mooooooooooooooooooooooo' Really hoping to see Lucie in Liverpool, loved her Elle in Legally Blonde. This show does seem to have had its fair share of problems at the St James - cancelled performances, abandoned performances (one of which coincided with my visit), delayed starts, sound issues, understudy lists to rival In The Heights.... I guess it's to the cast's credit that they've still delivered night after night and got such a positive response regardless. The 20 minute teaser before proceedings came to a sudden halt in December has definitely whetted the appetite to see the whole thing in a few weeks time.
