Isn't she a bit mature these days? (no offence intended)

I think she'll be great! A new film will be great!
I wonder who they would cast as Louise?

Ridiculous. What a vanity project.
I like her. A LOT. But this is basically Norma Desmond wanting to play 16 year old Salome.

If we amalgamate Rose's real-life timeline with that of the musical which, although will give us no concrete time-line as Arthur Laurents has stated that the information he was given to work with was vague to begin with - and this is "a musical fable", after all - we can work out very rough ages.
Rose, being 21 when Louise was born (in 1911), is in her early 30's when the musical begins (based on the fact that she was born in 1890 and the musical begins in the early 1920's). Louise reportedly did her first strip in 1929, was at Minsky's from 1930-1934 and left another venue to go to Hollywood in 1935. Even though Rose changed the birth certificates of the kids, it's not unreasonable to guess that Rose would be late 30's - mid 40's by the end of the musical.
Ethel Merman was around 51 when she played Rose, Angela Lansbury around 48, Bernadette Peters around 55, Patti LuPone around 59 and Imelda Staunton also around 59.
Barbara Streisand is now 73 - 9 years older than real-life Rose when she died, a gap that will widen until the film is released.
I, personally, wouldn't say it's ageist to say Barbara Streisand is too old to play this role. It's just factually correct.

Throw a filter on that camera lens and shoot it, bitches!
Ha ha no, I'm kidding. Luv Babs but this isn't right. But who else?
(Don't say Imelda, pleeeeease! She's never going to sell a Hollywood movie)

^ This film isn't necessary to begin with. I wouldn't be surprised if she ends up directing and financing it.

OMGosh! I can't wait. So what if she's too old. She was too young for Dolly but she was fabulous in that!
Boo to the Babs bashers. In the words of that great philosopher Taylor Swift, the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate!

Will they have someone else play Rose at the beginning? Having Barbra play her aged 50 is already a stretch, the idea of her playing a 30 year old is laughable!
