I wonder if they will change the poster for London to tie in with the adapted image on the cast recording (I’m hoping so!)

Yep - I follow one of Automation guys working on the show and he was recently at FOYS testing some rigging, and today working with a revolve with a scissor lift in the middle! Some spoilers about some of the staging. {Spoiler - click to view} Yes there’s a revolve with a lift in the middle and another revolve on the lift, the two revolves spin in opposite directions. There’s also a lift at the front of the stage which is used to bring actors up onto the stage and as an exit. And in Roar it lifts Juliet very high up to the level of the circle and she sings the track with projections going off on all three sides of the stage. It looks stunning.

And more {Spoiler - click to view} Also a flying sequence involving two actors and the moon, smoke filled bubbles and the night sky projected all around. A bit Kylie-esque?

These reports have encouraged me to book for Saturday afternoon. Its been a tough week at work, this sounds like just what is needed.

How did they create them? Loved that bit too. Very kylie/pop concert staging sensibility which works very well for the songs.

Lots of bad behaviour tonight, the women behind me seemed to think it was acceptable to singalong, and not even quietly. Other than that, the shows was just as funny and entertaining as it was on opening night.
The only change that stood out with they dropped a joke in the bathroom seen. The bathroom attendant didn’t pop a towel over this head when May and Juliet asked for privacy before leaving when asked again. Instead it skipped straight to the attendant leaving and doing the Bien Sur/Bien, Sir joke/dig.

Wonder if I should book in advance or take my chances on TKTS for a date in December? Do we reckon it will be up on the board?

Interval thoughts - absolutely brilliant first act. Cast and band 1st class. A really great feel good show. Hopefully more of the same to follow in act 2.

On paper that was so unpromising - but that has to be the most over the top, most fun show I’ve seen in ages. Played to the hilt by a super talented cast. Forget any preconceptions, this is fantastic. Such a happy show!

Wow, this is a fantastic production in every aspect. It’s in great shape for an early preview and I just can’t fault it. I came out of the Opera House this afternoon with a big smile on my face. It’s just so much fun and it’s definitely a production that has arrived in the U.K. at the right time. You can just forget about everything going on and for 2.5hrs have a really great time.
Cast wise, what an absolutely fantastic cast belting out some great pop songs. The way the songs where incorporated into the plot I thought was cleverly done and with great humour in some of the numbers.
The band sounded absolutely brilliant and the sound mixing with the vocals was spot on this afternoon
It was really nice to enjoy the on stage performance without having any patrons having an impromptu sing a long during the show and there was very little use of patrons taking in show recordings on mobiles. Where there was, FOH staff shut them down quickly.
This is a definite must see.

I wonder if they will change the poster for London to tie in with the adapted image on the cast recording (I’m hoping so!) In response to my own question, this tweet shows the new & Juliet Shaftesbury signage. Zooming in you can see the shape of the new flashy dash underneath the words (as seen on the cast recording cover). I’m a huge fan of the imagery used in theatrical posters too so I apologise if that’s viewed as extremely irrelevant 😂 but I also much prefer the updated version.

Now I’ve had time to digest today’s matinee, a few more thoughts on what I watched. Cassidy Janson and Oliver Tompsett really are a great pairing and can deliver both the comedy and more serious parts when required.
Vocally, this cast is stunning, both in their solo and ensemble numbers. Miriam-Teak Lea was just sublime both in her acting and singing as Juliet. CJ and OT where also a joy to listen to as always.
It was great to see the 9 piece band come out during the bows to get their own applause along with the cast.
Certainly, on my way out of the theatre this afternoon, I didn’t hear any negative reviews from other patrons who like myself really enjoyed this production.
Overall, a great afternoon spent at the Manchester Opera House.

I wonder if this is another Bat Out Of Hell. Original announcement met with doubt, if not derision. Publicity before the show of questionable quality leading to bad vibes and shouts of “it’s going to be dreadful”. Then people see it and go crazy about the shameless, brash cheek of it all. It develops a cult following in the WE (led by viserys 🙂) and ends up on Broadway. Tell me I’m wrong.

But Bat Out Of Hell WAS terrible. great set and effects, great singing, but some sort of story might have been nice. I hope this is better than that.

Ah, but Burly, Bat out of Hell had genuine great rock music, songs I could hear over and over again. No matter how clever this story is or how amazing the cast, &juliet still has cheap tacky noisy 90s pop music at its core. I'll probably go and see it at some point out of curiosity and on a big discount, but personally I know I could never love this even half as much as Bat. Sorry, child of the 80s here The 90s were when I gave up on pop music.
